http://www.businessinsider.com/pres...twitter-damage-to-tax-paying-retailers-2017-8 There needs to be more online competition in the marketplace. AMZN is slaughtering everyone. I talked about this here: https://www.elitetrader.com/et/thre...n-as-we-know-it-nyu-prof.311685/#post-4493185 Don't be surprised if Teh Donald starts to conjure up some monopolistic litigation againt Mr. Bezos & Co. that would (forgive me for this) trump the current body of law pertaining to retail operations. Amazon downspiked about $15 on the news.
A stopped clock is right twice a day. Probably for completely the wrong reason like another oligarch wants a go but..
Trump that has never sent a coherent fact base Tweet - the broken clock is far outperforming him. Amazon has been collecting/paying state sales tax over the last 5 years - anybody with a keyboard that can fog a mirror would know that. Trump is looking for tax cheats, he should look his mirror!
There has been a gap. I worked with Amazon UK's technical director in 2000. Nice young lady, we used to chat about the damage Amazon was going to do in the high street even then. Inefficiency is not always bad. http://money.cnn.com/2017/03/29/technology/amazon-sales-tax/index.html On Saturday Amazon (AMZN, Tech30) will start collecting sales taxes on purchases in the last four states where it wasn't doing so: Hawaii, Idaho, Maine and New Mexico. Four other states -- Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire and Oregon -- have no sales tax, while a fifth, Alaska, doesn't have a statewide tax, but it does have municipal sales taxes. Typically, an online retailer only has to collect sales tax in states where they have a physical presence, such as a storefront or a distribution center. That loophole cost states $17.2 billion in lost sales taxes last year, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.
Bezos owns The Washington Post, a very Trump critical publication. So this is the way how Trump fights back. Logic doesn't need to apply, just hurt feelings...
