There probably just referring to potentially non segregated accounts.
IB's security accounts are segregated as well as far as i know.
I wonder if they would really investigate the activity of 80,000 accounts to weed out non securities trading securities accounts.
So if you are only trading futures with less than $100,000 I'm guessing it's better to choose the commodities account given the questionable SIPC...
