Hi Baron, sorry to ask personally as I am new and not sure where to go. My question is on vertical spreads. With any a margin acct and having maintenance requirements, can you do vertical spreads where all you have to do is let them expire without any exercising of either side and just receive the limited loss or gain. I hope it is clear what I am asking. Thank you very much in advance! Chris
You need to post that question in the Options forum here. Just click on the green button labeled "Start a New Thread" at the top right of the following page: https://www.elitetrader.com/et/forums/options.12/
Hi Baron, is there a way to start a private thread w/ someone who does not make their profile visible ?
If you click on his username at the top of one of the public posts he has submitted, then you should see a link called "Start a Private Thread".
If a person knows your identity, then they could certainly expose you if they chose to. It's more a matter of how much that would really bother you. Some people would be mortified to find their identities revealed here and others wouldn't care one bit. But if that were to happen and it really bothered you, then you could report that post and we would address the issue at that time.
Thank you Baron. That information is both insightful and very helpful. I will try and convince the powers that be this is a great marketing opportunity for their array of products (not just options), an untapped potential customer base. They have some competitors on here who are longtime sponsors, which should hopefully wake them up.
Hi Baron. Before deciding on whether to become a sponsor, my vendor would like to know how many total active members are on Elite Trader. And out of all those members, how many would you say are professional (sophisticated) vs retail ("mom and pop")? Thanks again.
The total number of members is a little over 95k. Keep in mind when you advertise, you're not just advertising in front of our members. You're also exposing your ads to people that are not members. The ones that get here by searches, or the "lurkers" who read the discussion here every day but don't actually register as members. Google Analytics measures us at about 145k unique users per month.
In regards to how many people are retail vs. professional, I don't have the answer to your question because we haven't surveyed our users asking them for that info. My guess is that most are retail because being a pro in this business is uncommon. It's like asking how many people are pro basketball players out of the total number of people that play basketball. Most are not professional, but some definitely are.
Thanks for the recommendation, Baron. Can I ask why the Options Forum slot is more expensive than the other sponsorship slots?
Thanks Baron. So no more than a couple of thousand. Absolutely a niche market - small audience. However, this niche market is willing to pay a much higher premium than retail if the product or service helps their bottom line. I'll check to see if they are interested. Which type of sponsorship would you recommend? TT already has the coveted "Trading Software" forum sponsor spot.
Hi Baron, Could I get an estimate of how many of your members are professional option traders? I've noticed most are retail equity customers who trade individual accounts via platforms such as TOS or IB. Would like to know what portion of ET's actively viewing audience (your best guess) professionally day trades, runs an options-centric CTA, hedge fund, etc.
