Dear newbie!

First of all, welcome and congratulation! I would like to greet you in the name of all ETers, as the selfappointed head of the Greeting Commitee. Coffe and sandwiches are down the hallway, please help yourself. The hazing is planned after your 5th post, if we decide that you are not a spammer. Namecalling and threats are already on your way...

Welcome, because you have just joined the BEST online message board about trading, by traders for traders and wannabes.

Congratulations, because you have actually found us. We don't know how you did it, you might want to send a feedback to the site's owner Red Herring, I mean Baron. He is a good guy. On second thought, screw the feedback...

Hey, only one sandwich per newbie, you greedy bastard! Well, you might have a future in trading, I can already tell.

So you think you will learn here how to make money, right? Sure... We have a few millionares and million papertraders.

There are only 2 rules, otherwise everything goes:

1. Before you post your very newbie and unoriginal question that has been asked 3122 times already, please, PLEASE use the SEARCH button at the top right corner. Chances are that we already answered it 3 years ago.

2. In the very unlikely case when you think that you have a new and original question, automatically Rule #1 should be followed.

That's about it dear Newbie. Enjoy your stay. The coffee and food was $3.45. Why? You thought there was something free in life? Not in trading my friend....

Seriously speaking, you get out of ET, what you give. Come for the jokes, stay for the knowledge.

Pekelo

Head of the Greeting Committee

P.S.: I apologize to everyone, but I just HAD TO write this. 6 years and no Newbie FAQ? What the FAQ?

OK, fun is over, now we start with the hard work! Life is a bitch, aint it?
Just to show I am not a complete jerk, here is a small sample of what you can find by using the SEARCH feature. This is not a comprehensive list, because why should I do the work for you?

You can see in the links the words I used to get the results. One thing to note is that when I was looking for one thing, I ran into several other unrelated, but useful info. That is another good reason for you to use the Search before you leave this website. You can see how many links are there with the word "mentor" in it, although the results have nothing to do with mentoring.

Typical newbie questions and threads answering them:

What are the best books on trading?

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...ooks+on+trading

How much capital do I need to start with?

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...+capital+needed

I am generally clueless, but interested in trading anyway:

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...king+for+mentor

I wanna be a stocktrader!:

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...ighlight=mentor

How to trade:

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...ighlight=mentor

Mentoring:

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...ighlight=mentor

http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showt...ighlight=mentor

Trading and working fulltime:

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...ighlight=mentor

How long does it take to make it?:

http://elitetrader.com/vb/showthrea...ighlight=mentor

Etc.etc.etc. I hope you got the picture by now. I have given you the tools and the ideas for a start, the rest depends only on YOU. Good luck!

Coffee and sandwiches for $3.45... what, no free open bar?!

Yeah, ET could use a structured, dynamic, growing FAQ. (Heck, every fx bucketshop and suddenly endangered prop firm has one.) Or at least pick up where the classic Gems: Methods and Systems and Methods and Systems Only threads left off.

Some old time wisdom for the big picture.
"If"

If you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you
But make allowance for their doubting too,
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream--and not make dreams your master,
If you can think--and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it all on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;

If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: "Hold on!"

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
Or walk with kings--nor lose the common touch,
If neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you;
If all men count with you, but none too much,
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And--which is more--you'll be a Man, my son!

By Rudyard Kipling (1865-1936).
