Someone compared him to Colonel Kurtz a ways back - not altogether inaccurate.
He's created his own world, and he is literally worshiped by his followers - or something not far from it. I wouldn't exactly call him crazy though, because he's "getting what wants," to borrow one of his own phrases. His house in Tahoe has long been paid for, he doesn't really seem like the adventurous type, and he gives a strong impression of being lonely... hence a natural desire to create and sustain a cultlike adoration.
What he's created is almost a religion in itself: trend following elevated to a holy practice (follow the trend - ohmmm...) with elements of gnosticism -and the subtle promise of riches through enlightenment- thrown in.
As I'm sure someone will ask, I went to an Incline tribe meeting -one was enough for me- and you would be surprised at the caliber of people who were there, and fully bought in. These guys weren't lightweights.
