Eset NOD32 gets mentioned a lot here. I have used it for years and still do. It supposedly has one of the smallest memory footprints and best zero-day protection.

I 2nd this.

ESET user here, very happy with them. Smallest footprint and best protection (both in detection of known viruses and zero-day threats.)

I uninstalled Norton many years ago and found out that the Windows Add or Remove Programs function in the Control Panel will not completely remove it. Symantec, the company that makes Norton, offers an uninstall program that will completely remove Norton from your computer:

yeah, now Norton is starting to send me private emails warning me about new threats.

I only bought Norton because the guys at staples were so adamant about how I would need it.

I'm about ready to start going naked.

If you can't sell me a computer that's got at least a chance at living virus free then I guess I shouldn't buy one from you.
