Quote from CommunistMonkey:

How many people do Netflix employ? How many employees lost jobs at Video chains that got wiped out?

BlockBuster = 60k employees
Netflix = 2k employees.

MovieGallery/Hollywood Videos had 4500 stores that disappeared as well (probably another 30k employees.)

That's the natural cycle of business. Ho hum.

How many Hardwares stores were displaced by HD or Lowes? Or small business's displaced by Wall Mart.

Lol...are you serious? These jobs are gone forever. It's not the natural cycle of business. It's called automation. Technology is replacing actual human work. There's no cycle to this; it's a great improvement in productivity and efficiency but at the cost of human labor. Last time you cross a bridge or pay tolls, see how many gates are manned by EZ-Pass and how many actually has a human cashier on hand. Sorry to break it to you, but a lot of these jobs are gone forever, blockbuster being just one of them.

HD/Lowes stores do not suffer from this. People want to go there and get their stuff right away. Other products are harder to ship. You're not going to ship 2-3 sheets of drywall to your house...and small businesses have suffered from Wal-Mart. Just google the topic.

I don't have any real facts here but I suspect that Home Depot store that employs 80-100 people took out 3-5 hardware stores that employed 20-30. There's some job loss and salaries probably drop, but you still have about the same number of hardware store jobs in the local area.

The internet wipes out the local low skill jobs completely and replaces them with much fewer higher skill jobs elsewhere. Retail was a good place to people with only a high school education to end up and a bunch of those people now have no where to go.

Quote from Gallardolam:

"Layoffs too often became permanent, not part of the business cycle. And these changes didn't just affect blue collar workers. If you were a bank teller or a phone operator or a travel agent, you saw many in your profession replaced by ATMs and the internet," President Obama said at a campaign event in Kansas.

Obama will lose his job because of internet when he Blames The Internet For Job Losses. Think about it.

Internet subscription is one the biggest industry in the world.

People who earn money from the internet they spend this money for the economy and create jobs. This creates million of jobs

Under sea cables are laid for 50,000 miles and more to connect the world with internet. This creates million of jobs.

I do not understand how internet cause job losses.

I personally despise President Obama, but that doesn't make everything he says wrong. I see nothing incorrect about the quoted statement. The internet does wipe out jobs, just like a harvesting combine wipes out jobs. It's an efficient tool, and low-to-no-skill work is an inefficient tool. This should prompt people to educate themselves and become a more efficient tool. But then, if everybody was an efficient tool then we'd all be just a bunch of dumb tools. We would be all fighting over the same (decreased number of) jobs. and we are. We are now competing with robots and databases for employment, a battle we will lose sadly. We made the bed and now we have to sleep in it. Or maybe we could just design a robot to sleep in it for us.

Oh wait, I must have forgotten to tell Barack that we are having YET ANOTHER JOBLESS RECOVERY!! All the recoveries after the 1960's have been jobless recoveries..

Karl Marx was absolutely correct! The guy with the machines makes the money!! Get on the bandwagon, learn to program a computer!! If your mind-numbing job can be done better by a computer, that ought to tell you something, no?

The trouble with Karl Marx was that, well, he could identify a problem, but his solutions were INSANE! Stupid too.. another Atheist with a vendetta against God or something... anybody that is following that garbage nowadays is just really over-the-top-stupid... Constant Revolution [Barack spoke of "change", Clintons spoke of "change", morons speak of "change" and agitate for change and for some reason they never get anything that lasts] is a recipe for opening the world up to being led by the most successful psychopaths!! We are actually seeing the rise of the psychopath in the political arena, the corporate arena... The world is more and more being led by people that are emotionally 18 months old!! If you don't get that then feel free to grab a few books about psychopaths. They REALLY SUCK!! [the psychos, not the books]

That moron Obama is certainly a proponent of the progressive income tax system... The problem is that corporations have the best politicians that money can buy. At tax time they get rebates! Welfare recipients and low income people get rebates. Self employed people do everything they can to not pay taxes, taxes just fund their worst enemies, unelected government bureaucrats that regulate them! Criminals don't pay income taxes, they have to be careful not to even let their friends know if they have any money, let alone the IRS... so who pays? People that get paychecks! The "workers of the world" are paying the taxes!!

Barack and his "progressive" insanity needs to be wrapped up with the garbage and taken to the trash.... we need to generate all the revenue to fund the public sector by consumption taxes. Everybody that buys anything would have their tax collected at the Point of Sale. Every criminal, every sick-lame-lazy welfare schmuck, every rich narcissistic jerk, every banker, all the corporations, they all would be paying for the government. The size of government and the cost of it would be very directly presented to them on an ongoing basis. They would get it that the Credit Fairy was not going to pay for their war on drugs, their war on terror, their war on poverty,etc.. they would see that all that bullshit costs THEM money...

Obama should blame Al Gore for inventing the Internet.
