I thought it might be interesting if fellow ET members describe the ideas and realizations that have allowed them to bring their trading to the next level.
I look forward to hearing about your trading breakthroughs.
I'll start off:
Trading multiple units was a HUGE breakthrough for me.
Being able to take partial profits along the way increased the overall profitability of my trading tremendously, and boosted my trading psychology by having a larger number of small wins and fewer scratched trades.

My greatest breakthrough came when I fully realized the value of sitting on my hands, doing nothing.
Once I gained this discipline, it helped me to stay out of impulse trades based on news events, and to give trades I was in the time they needed to develop into winners.
The old wives saying "a watched pot never boils" is a good maxim for trading

There have been a number of "ah-ha" moments, but if I had to choose a "breakthrough", I suppose it would be reaching an understanding of the nature of probability as it relates to trading, and the role it plays in entering and managing the trade.
Once I understood this, everything fell into place, and any other issues regarding discipline and patience and consistency and so on became secondary.

My trading "breakthrough", if you want to call it this way, is trading itself!
I did a lot of papertrading and learning before, read various books about different topics, but nothing compared to "real" trading!
Sure, knowledge of markets and products is VERY important!
But practice shows you more than pure theoretic trading...
(That`s my opinon.)
Greetings

When I realized I did not always have to know what was going on, and that it was ok not too. That helped me a lot because I used to be upset if I sat there and had no clue, but the truth is, 90% of the time I really don't know whats "going to happen" (if I did I would have a trade on), and thats fine.

I look forward to hearing about your trading breakthroughs.
I think my first one was when I finely realized just how much work was involved, and deciding to get busy.
