One Christmas Eve, at the company's after close Christmas party, the owner called me in to his office and said, "Do you realize 90% of the commissions you generated this year were from your own account? I'm dropping your license, but you can keep your desk and I'll still give you the brokers discount on commissions and margin."
That was the happiest day of my life. I walked out of there knowing I was finally an Independent Trader.
But I never told my wife I got fired.
I still put on my suit and tie everyday and went to the office.
And when anybody asked, I just told them I was a stockbroker.
