Quote from oldtime:

they keep talking about History, and The Fall of the Roman Empire. The Romans got over extended Militarialy, and then they devalued their currency.

Yet, there it is, still existing. Many go there each year just to look at things and eat the food.

If we collapse like Rome did, how will that be bad?

If the euro goes to parity, I might even move there.

Rome may have been alright but the rest of the empire turned to hell for about 800 years. In fact the level of output produced in the roman time was not matched again until the 19th century. So it had a huge impact.

Quote from maxpi:

Private banking is a problem. If banks were publicly owned they would fund the public sector in it's entirety.

The graduated income tax is a major problem for several reasons. It's very invasive, who are they to ask me what I make or how I spend it? A flat tax on consumption would bring everybody into the fold of taxpayers. Rich people that consume more would pay more. Criminals would pay taxes every time they consumed something [unless they were incarcerated]. Welfare addicts would know that if they voted for more government they would have to pay for it via more taxation.

I am all for flat tax, but there are so many with a vested interest in that never going forward. Think of how many lawyer, accountants, CPA's, and business that are rich off the dysfunctional tax system we have.

Quote from Scataphagos:

Your "America is going to be all right", head-in-the sand naivete and optimism is admirable. Unfortunately, you apparently haven't perused enough world economic history to understand.

America is in DEEP DO-DO.. and Odumbo is "shoveling fast".

Without radical reformation (none of which is on the horizon), America as we've historically known it... is TOAST!

And in case you don't understand why... the primary culprits are the greedy politico, "want something for nothing", tit-sucking parasites, and DemoCraps/Progressives! They've been grinding down America's success for 100 years...

All you are stating is emotional crap that means nada. Please provide some more substance.

I am not saying you are wrong for attacking Obama- but Obama cannot destroy things. No President has that much power. US has not changed much in the last 10 years- GDP is great as it normally is, and the whole financial crisis had a GDP slump of only a couple percent. And we all think we have problems?

Obama's socialism is overblown, but I agree he is a dumb black poor ass, but so are allot of politicians. The feds stake in GM is there to save jobs and help unions, not to take over industry. The fed would rather to sell GM now if it was up, but they are too stupid to cut losses. He is not a socialist, just a black minority democrat academic.

Workers?..... yes unions are so recent. Not- they have been around forever. America is made of a large majority of workers, few entitlement dicks are here. Even the spooks in the Bronx would rather work than receive entitlements. Nothing in the US is "headed for the hills"..........

Whenever there are significant changes, somebody gets the hose. If we persist in trying to work out a solution where "nobody gets it", no change will ever take place. What needs to be done is that which is best for the country as a whole... and whomever "gets it in the neck" will just have to lump it... or there will never be constructive change.

You are a smart guy like I. I have spent extensive time in Europe.

If you ever expat to Europe make sure it is country that has good social service because of your condition you mentioned before.

Those countries are higher tax ( Scandinavian,Germany, England ), but I can tell you first hand the real low tax countries, with the exception of Ireland, have shit for social service.

Don't even think about going to the former Easter Bloc where my wife is from and expect to get good health care and social services because it ain't happening.

My buddy in Ukraine, said the public hospital is freakin' scary everyone pays for the private that can afford to. Their idea of health care in Easter Europe is often grab a bottle and drink your problems away.

And most FSU countries don't take kindly to pot smokers at all, the attitude is changing in the Czech Republic, but try that in Russia and Ukraine their jails make ours look like playgrounds.

not sure what condition you are talking about, I think in 2012 I spent $132 on health care, and most of that was just a waste of time and money that I could have got cheaper at the pharmacy, if they let the pretty little girl there give me what I needed.

But I do like smoking that pot. You say they don't let you do that in Russia? Gosh dang man, it's just as evil as they taught me it was in school.
