Let's see, life expectancy was going up until various companies were able to sell their bullshit stories. Hmmm, what a surprise that most of the miracle drugs are proven to be a pile of phony crap. Too funny!!!

Quote from trefoil:

About the same age, and the PSA level on me is crazy low too. But PSA is not the be-all and end-all; just means your chance is low, not zero.
As for milk, skim is better. But a litre is a lot. I just have a bit with breakfast cereal, the little bit that goes in the couple of cups of coffee per day I usually have, and then there's whatever's in the dessert I have for dinner, usually the source there being the creme brulee I indulge in when we go out to eat if the restaurant we go to offers that on the menu, and this only happens once a week anyway.
So I don't abstain entirely, but I don't down a litre a day either. Milk isn't the only source of dairy out there, after all, and you have to count everything.

wow.....50's huh? You know what they say.........."ain't no fool like an old fool."

Another personal anecdote:

Beside the fish oil 3 weeks before my annual checkup I started to take Niacin too, the flushing type (because that is what works). I built it up slow so no flushing occured. My colesterol levels came down by 30%, specially the trygs thanks to this fish oil+Niacin combo.* So no statin type of dangerous subscription drug was needed, just some common sense approach.

Since then I stopped Niacin (it was more like a test out of curiosity) but I am taking Lovaza (because I have free access). The doctor wants another cholesterol check around June but I don't really care for it. Oh yes, she wants me to take 4 pills, I am only taking 1-2, because they are more potent than the previously taken generaic fish oil and I got good results with those, so I don't see the need for 4 pills with higher dose...

* I wasn't taking a lot either. 1200 mg of fish oil and 500 Niacin if I recall

Well, long as we're here again, recently discovered that a can of sardines (I like them in olive oil) is an excellent lunch. Right portion, highly nutritious, tasty.
Switched to cod liver oil from fish oil pills btw. Funny since this is what I took as a kid a long time ago. Mom, it turns out, was right.
