Quote from trendlover:

Phoenix, why so much hate between 2 Asian peoples? They are so close with "genetics". Why they fight so much and have so much violence? Please explain this hate. Is this genes or is this for wealth?

History -- payback of Japan's colonization of China.

Quote from Grandluxe:

How come rioting is allowed in China? I thought it is a brutal dictatorship?

Dictators love riots when they are in their interests.

Quote from icarus618:

Americans don't understand how hated the Japanese are by its neighbors.

Really?

My grandfather was captured on Sumatra in WWII and was a Japanese POW until the end of the war and my step-mother is Nisei Japanese.

The idea that all Americans are ignorant about Japan and its regional history is BS.

Quote from Grandluxe:

The Japanese ambassador to China is dead..hmmmm

TOKYO (Reuters) - Japan's ambassador-designate to China, Shinichi Nishimiya, died on Sunday in a Tokyo hospital, the Foreign Ministry said, three days after he was found unconscious on a Tokyo street.

Doctors were looking into the cause of death, ministry official Takashi Ariyoshi said in a statement, but no other details were available. Nishimiya, 60, was found unconscious on a street near his home on his way to work.

Nishimiya was to have left in mid-October to take over from Uichiro Niwa as Japan's top envoy in Beijing.

"I am concerned that when these countries engage in provocations of one kind or another over these various islands, that it raises the possibility that a misjudgment on one side or the other could result in violence, and could result in conflict," Mr Panetta said, when asked about a clash between Japan and China.

"And that conflict would then have the potential of expanding."

-Defence Secretary Leon Panetta

A decade ago, I could not understand why W. and the zionist clique around him, were busy doing you know what to invade Iraq, when it was clear to many of us that such war would allow China a wonderful time to rise without worry. Now the chinese are flexing muscles, and sending ships.

I hope that the conflict between china and japan would not lead to a nuclear Japan --- but I would not be surprised if Japan were to go that route using nuclear china as a reason/excuse for doing so.

I was speaking in general terms and did not say "all Americans," which wouldn't make any sense since I am the one making the post. Look elsewhere if you're intending to pick a fight. I'm rarely on this site nowadays and rarer still do I feel the urge to post anything.

The pics from China were interesting as I have spent a lot of time in the Far East and have a second home in Seoul. My intent was to add a bit of color to the reporting. Japan has a similar dispute with South Korea over another set of islands called Dokdo by the Koreans and Takeshima by the Japanese.

About a week ago, the Japanese government took the bizarre step of advertising in Japanese national and regional newspapers of Japan's sovereignty over Dokdo/Takeshima. That's not a good way to make friends and gain influence, especially since Koreans (I mean Koreans in general; note the absence of "all") are still hot over a Japanese company's attempt to patent Kimchi.

I see.

Japan is still despised, particularly in China. Some of the military incursions are still referred to as "rape" like the "Rape of Nanking" (that one happens to be the title of a book by Iris Chang so it is widely known, even in America). The Imperial Japanese Army was brutal throughout Asia due in large part to its attitude towards prisoners.

I was surprised by the movie "Empire of the Sun" and its depiction of the IJA officer corps. It seemed like an attempt to accurately describe what occurred in Shanghai and it was pretty shocking.

I guess China is expressing some hostility it developed when it was much weaker than Japan. Now the tables have turned.
