"2560 x 1600 = 4,096,000 pixels
2880 x 1800 = 5,184,000 pixels
30" display is much easier on the eyes, than 15" or 17" on similar resolutions"
Thats gonna be some some tiny quotes on a 15" screen. I use a Dell 30" screen @ 2560 x1600 and I still squint from 2 feet away some times.

I am really salivating on a Macbook myself, but I do not think it is an optimal choice for trading.
Price and software compatibility issues are my biggest concerns.
Personally, I`m looking at a Dell Precision Mobile Workstation with an extra screen.
What will you be using it for? Day trading and EOD work on daily charts are two completely different animals.

my sony vaio does 1920x1080.
It's also only 4 pounds, which is very uncommon for 15inch laptops.
But the build quality isn't that great and it's a little expensive.
But for me, a 15inch screen and lightest possible was my main criteria.

Put a desktop in your laptop

I have read some posts here, but with the progress of technology, need some up to date details
Which laptop would you recommend if require high resolution display (minimum 1920 x 1080) and ability to connect to 2 or more monitors.
I am considering Lenovo thinkpads, Dell Precision for eg M6600 or a Macbook pro retina.
Since l prefer high resolution screens, would going for the macbook pro retina give me the most desktop real estate, at 2880 x 1800 resolution?
Apple by the way has announced Java is obsolete and don't maintain it any more so would it work with IB, one of my brokers? since they require java to work.

if you want to hook up the notebook with one or two external monitors, then the laptop screen becomes less important. The build quality, performance and heat dissipation of the notebook are more important.
My setup is a thinkpad T430 (a great notebook with an average display) hooked with a 24" external monitor, thus get the best of two worlds.

No unless you put windows on it with bootcamp. The retina display on the OS X scales the ui, so it's bassically the same as 1440x900 but much sharper, but can decerease the scale so it will look like 1920x1080 res.
