Come on bastards, blame it on the Greeks

The lazy Greeks, the economically irresponsible, the debt-ridden and un-reliable.
This rhyme, I humbly offer to Frau Merkaiser and Mr Obanana:

It's all their fault!
If Europe explodes, blame the Greeks
If EU countries output declines, blame the Greeks
If the US has a 120debt/GDP, blame the Greeks

It's all their fault!

If oil and gas prices roket, blame the Greeks
If all sovereign ratings are downgraded, blame the Greeks
If we go to war with Iran, Afghanistan, Pakistan, North Korea and eventually all developing countries, blame the Greeks

They're a tiny nation, but it's all their fault! And even it wasn't who gives a shit, so...

just blame the Greeks!

Politically speaking every bad situation needs a scapegoat.

Greece represents everything that can go wrong with bad and relentless government spending, massive debt, and socialism for the rich.

It's really the arrogant or rather ridiculous attitudes of the Greeks that irritate people.

It's bad ju-ju... when people come to think of themselves as "entitled" to the property of others (thanks to government)... the entire Western world is experiencing it now.

+1

I hope the greeks get what they deserve: years, decades of extreme poverty

Be careful. They will be saying the same when the US defaults "we got what we deserved." Except it won't be the German's telling us how to restruture it will be the Chinese.

I blame it on the British SOE's WWII operational plan, which meant they got into bed with the Greek Communist Party and pumped them up tremendously in order to combat the Nazi occupation.

And we all know how well the Greek economy has done since WWII. Where would they be without tourism ?

When the US had it's last budget impasse the MSM were blaming it on the Tea Party!! Even that stupid Fox News was talking that garbage.. Decades of overspending was the more obvious root cause.

I still don't understand why an economy that surpassed any in all the history of the world had to borrow.. but essentially it's obvious that the Public Sector of the US of A could be given the entire GNP and they would still have to raise fees and taxes here and there and still would have unfunded liabilities...

Ahem:

http://www.guardian.co.uk/business/...one-crisis-live

5.56pm: Despite all the angst between Athens and Berlin, travel agents are reporting an increase in inquiries from Germans wanting to visit the tourist-dependent country.

Helena Smith has the story:

Amazingly, the surge in enquiries has been made in the "last few days" and may well be a knee-jerk reaction German Euro parliamentarian Alexander Graf Lambsdorff exhorting his compatriots to visit Greece earlier this week.

A member of the German government's junior partner, the Free Democratic Party, the liberal MEP urged Germans to visit debt-stricken Greece "as soon as possible" because it desperately needed to see economic growth.

"Anyone who has ever considered going on holiday to Greece can now send a signal," he told Tuesday's edition of Hamburger Abendblatt."Every holidaymaker is a help to the country," he added, saying Germans should consider visiting Greece in the winter as its hotels tended to be full for only three months in the summer "so there's ample growth potential."

Germans have long topped the league tables of tourist arrivals to Greece (closely followed by UK visitors) although tour operators had reported a marked drop in holiday maker interest this year. "We've suddenly been flooded with calls of interest," said a travel agent in the Greek capital.

Perhaps European solidarity hasn't thrown in the towel after all.

Has it crossed your mind that it was not really a Greek but an Albanian or Turkish immigrant posing as Greek that screwed the wife when she made that trip around the Greek islands?

While I appreciate your attempt at humor, I've never been married.
But Greece is at the same level as most of Africa in that respect, I agree.

Its easy to blame greeks, but actually you can look from the other point of view. They would have been fine if not joining an eurozone. In my opinion their industry can't compete with Germany or France - its those countries that wants euro, because its beneficial to their economy. Weaker countries like Greece loose one of the most important economy protection tool - their own currency. So they have deficit and finance it by borrowing and then spend good deal of that money on geman or french industry goods and everyone is happy. Greeks live well but they don't know that its just an illiusion, Germany companies have bigger profits because there is no protection and greeks will NEVER be as efficient as germans (and I dont blame them for that, everyone is different). And bank managers can pay themselves big bonuses showing imaginary protits Until... The system itself is rigged for countries like Greece or Portugal. At least until they become germans - which we know thats not going to happen. And EU provide some free money for bussinesses of those countries, probably in hope to make it competitive, but in my opinion it just makes matters worse. It just distorts market and encourage corruption. This is just one more example of big government decisions that has good intentions, but making things even worse. I think Greece should leave eurozone and default, lower taxes significantly and make reforms to to fire all them goverment officials and stupid rules (well generally forget all that communist bullcrap). Let people easily start bussiness and don't control and regulate them too much. Well generally do what every smart country should do, but this would be especially beneficial for Greece, and with big tourism sector they could get back on track pretty soon. It wont be possible with debt like this. Well this is just my opinion

nobody forced Greece to adopt the euro. the UK opted out. Poland is delaying adopting it.
central banks are nothing but inflation engines because they react to political pressures. the US was a lot better off when it was on the gold standard.

Igni has the correct prescription for Greece's ills. can it happen with the socialist mindset that exists in Greece?

But you are behaving like a Iranian who lost by Greeks once and saw his empire collapse.

If Greeks didn't exist, you would be under Iranian or Turkish occupation today. That little nation besides setting the foundation of science has also served as a shield to invasions of Europe.

"If there had not been the virtue and courage of the Greeks, we do not know which the outcome of World War II would had been."

"Hence we will not say that Greeks fight like heroes, but that heroes fight like Greeks"

Sir Winston Churchill, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom

"How can any educated person stay away from the Greeks? I have always been far more interested in them than in science."

Albert Einstein, Jewish-American scientist

"Greece was the first of civilized nations that presented an example of what man should be."

Thomas Jefferson, 3rd President of the United States.[8]

Take it easy man. I know you lost the war because of Greeks and Russians but hey, you are setting youselves for losing the next one too. This time it will be worse.

wow, that's a little too much greek love, if you know what I mean.

I guess that vaunted Greek phalanx is why there was a Charlemagne? I'm also guessing that vaunted Greek phalanx is why there's so many muslims in Bosnia?

I respect Greece, too, but you gotta tone it down, bro.
