I am rating this more for its execution API than either its GUI or its quote data.
As an execution API, I think Sterling is pretty respectable. Unlike many other systems I've used, it seems to provide almost all of the execution functionality that exchanges provide. On the down side, most of their examples are in Microsoft VB (so of course that's what I, and I presume most other API coders, use), and I don't find VB the most convenient language. Speed is OK, although it's not going to win a race against purely-socket-based, FIX-like interfaces.
I can't comment on using Sterling for quotes, as I don't use it for that. Unlike the user below, I find the startup for Sterling almost instantaneous (when run on a fast machine). |

I held of on reviewing this software until i had been using it a few months, and I can now say with 100% confidence that it is garbage!
It routinely freezes and takes 5 minutes to restart. The charting is horrible. Bad ticks wreck your charts for 5 days and there is nothing you can do about it.
It often lags a full second behind my other data feed, that I pay $50 a month for!
Today, it keeps losing bars on my charts. Every now and then all I can see for the day are 3 1 minute bars.
Level 2 gets crossed and mixed up all the time.
When the market is really busy it plain just doesn't work.
I liked it at first until I really got to use it, and have had it cost me money several times now. I wouldn't give it such a harsh review because I like some aspects of it, but it is clear from other reviews that they have had huge problems for years and haven't fixed them.
Stay away if you like money! |

Worst quote server on the street. Lags way behind Anvil side by side.
ECN quotes constantly crossed due to either stale or slowness.
If you scalp, RUN do not walk from this platform. |

I started trading with sterling scampro and it is absolutely garbage for scalping. The quotes give me problems almost every day. It shows stupid prints on the chart that never take place..And the smart order stinks as it is delayed. The cost for this software is unwarranted. |
