my only beef with my every day platform is the documentation for their formula language is lacking... having to reach out to prod specialists all the time is not ideal...

As noted below, xtrader is about the only other player on the field. The downside to both is the cost, but you get what you pay for...

I use CQG Trader and had CQG IC previously. I dont see anything matching these pieces of software in the retail industry. I value only XTrader on the same level. Everything else doesnt really worth to touch.

CQG gets an "A+" for: - Real time data stream accuracy and speed - Historical data accuracy and length of time series

CQG gets a "A-" for: - Packaged and custom charting feautures

I would not (yet) use CQG as an execution platform.

Yes, CQG is over-priced due to excessive overhead at CQG, but the cost is peanuts in the grand scheme of things.

Go with CQG as your primary data stream and DTN.IQFeed as your backup. DTN.IQFeed is an excellent feed as well.
