I'm only a few weeks into Sierracharts, the look and feel is very good, it is no harder to get used to than any other software, it works well with IB data. I loaded it up in a user account without admin privileges and it runs fine... that is my litmus test for crapware, if it won't run under those conditions it's not written that well.. The screen trading app works really well, it can put up a follow on bracket or just one order after your entry gets filled... I like it much better than Ninja, AMIBroker, or Multicharts... and it's comparable to Tradestation Charting in a lot of ways.. overall the interface is very nice, you can change indicator settings and make them the default... it just has a lot of little things that are done well and make the overall experience really nice and it will backfill intraday tick data from IB if it's not too late in the day... backtesting can only be done via data replay at high speed, it's not an optimizing engine at this point, just charting and order entry via screen. The replay simulation will fill you on Bid /Ask data so it can be useful for comparing the standard backtest done on Trade data to a single run done on Bid /Ask to put away those pesky questions about fills... I'm just giving it all 5's because I spent a few weeks comparing chart packages and it is the best by far... it's also the weakest on backtesting so it might complement Openquant really nicely... |

I've been using Sierra Chart for most of the time I've been an ET member. I've tried a bunch of others before and while I've used SC but nothing has beat it for a rock solid real time multi-timeframe trading platform.
Its still the only one that lets you combine real time ib data with the 5 second true data feed so that your data is both instant and accurate (yes, actually gets all the bar highs and lows correctly).
For a while they've been building the trading interface and I was able to abandon (the pretty low cost of) zeroline trader and just trade off the charts. Excellent - finally I could cope with HSI's ability to jump so far of the dom that you never thought you'd catch up.
Now the programing interface has caught up with the trading interface and I've got my first fully automated day trading system running. Good work guys. |

Iv'e been using this software for a couple years now and in the beggining had some hiccups. I honestly have to say as time has gone on i have become more and more impressed. i just downloaded the most recent version and am using it with Sierra Charts real time data feed. This is the first day using their data feed and i love it.
Unfortunatelly i (as probably most of us have) have come to expect new installs, especially more than one service at a time that relies on the other, to go badly. Its usually two or three days of sorting out bugs and problems before it works right. It literally took me less than an hour to get the new download with the new data feed configured and figured out.
I have bashed Sierra Charts in the past when i thought it was deserved but i have to be fair and say i am really impressed with this software package these days. |
