I thought I'd add this review for any of you who are visually creative but find getting enough screen real estate and a compact viewing zone a problem for displaying all your idea.
One of the new features on E10 is "Stacks" which allows you to stack loads of chart displays on top of each other and one click on the heading instantly brings up that chart. It's like having 20 monitors on my quad display.
You can float the stacks anywhere so you can use them alongside other software.
In addition there is a new Layers feature so you can have different layered work spaces on top of each other and instantly available.
Stacks and Layers allow a visually creative trader to have a giant organized display in a compact workspace so eye travel is minimized.
Support is probably the best in the industry with immediate online chat and remote assist. |

I last wrote a review of ensign about 10 years ago. Time for an update. Ensign 10 replaced Ensign windows last year and is a totally rewritten application with many improvements. The most noticesable is that all windows freely float now - about time.
With Ensign 10 you can use multiple data feeds. including the free FXCM data feed, which iqFeed charges $25 a month for. Also, if you use one of the many broker feeds you can get free backfill from DTN Market Access.
For me, the best improvement has been greatly improved functionality of the in-built programming language, ESPL. Ensign has a built-in Delphi IDE, including a debugger, and is now at least as powerful and more fully featured than easyLanguage. If you can code somnething in TradeStation/MultiCharts, Ninja or MetaTrader, you can code it in ensign.
What really keeps me loyal to ensign though is the customer service. Over the last few months, I have been coding a complex system in ESPL and have asked Howard, the owner for many additional features in espl and for help with programming problems. Not only does he always respond on the same day,he usually brings out a new version of ensign with resolutions for my problems on the same day as well. Howard has released at least 10 new builds of Ensign in the last 3 months just to incorporate additional features or fixes that I requested. He even spent the best part of a day on Teamviewer (built-in to ensign) with me to help solve a problem I was having.
I can't imagine getting service that good from any other charting platform provider. If you haven't looked at ensign for a while, i would recommend that you do so, especially if, like me, you like to code your own systems and indicators, etc. $50/month - a great bargain. |

I've used Ensign for six years now in tandem with IB and have gotten used to some of its quirks. I'm sure there are better programs out there - and many far worse - but inertia will probably keep me with them for the forseeable future. I barely use 1% of its features. Mostly bells and whistles as far as I'm concerned but for a newbie enamoured with indicators et al then Ensign would be a good place to start, at least.Support on the whole is pretty good, courteous, responsive and knowledgeable but if you don't have a clue about programming then all the DYO's in the World won't help you. From time to time I've suggested changes and/or improvements ....the only one implemented thus far was to raise the monthly fee $10 ;-) Howard used to personally create templates for you but it seems they've become a little more professional (ie anything extra has a price)and a little less likely to bend over backwards for their clients. No monthly newsletter anymore. They must be busy. |
