I've been using Ensign for over 3 years and love it. Haven't had any of the computer freezes or crashes opm8 has had. AND I'm using an 8 year old pos computer.
I'll admit there were some bugs when the 'new' version came out about a year ago. So, I just stayed on an older version until the bugs were worked out. They do have constant updates, but you don't have to update. I only update every 3 or 4 months.
Telephone support can be slow. I usually email my questions and get a response within a day.
Before Ensign I used several other charting services and Ensign is by far the best I've used. |

Ever since the redesign of Ensign over a year ago it has gone steadfastly downhill. The almost daily updates include bug fixes introduced by the previous version. It's a never-ending circle of "improvements" coded by someone who it seems understands nothing of coding best practices and UI design. In-program and on-line documentation is vastly behind the latest features so they've taken to posting answers to user questions as their "documentation." If you ever ask a support question the answer always includes installing the latest version which fixes some previous bug. I will say it has some good drawing tools, which is its only positive feature. However, I'm sick of the frequent crashes and frustrating, extended 100% cpu spikes that freeze the whole computer for minutes at a time. When it goes down it takes about 5 restarts before it comes up without crashing after doing a massive, needless automatic refresh of everything under the sun (even though all charts were up to date before the crash). I've optimized the living crap out of it, use only minimal look back periods in my charts and a couple of ultra-simple indicators. And at $50/month they can shove it. It used to run on a dual-core 2.67Ghz cpu and 4GB of RAM. Buh-bye pos buggy platform. |

I recommend this software for all types of traders. It's pretty reliable for fast and quick day trading. Charts are nice and works well with DTN's IQFeed. My only complaints are the organization & documentation of the program. It's a little cumbersome to do some basic tasks and there is a little learning curve to it. Documentation is also on their website but doesn't cover all aspects. Once you get used to things, it's a very good piece of software. It is very customizable and you can create a lot of indicators with it. Support is quick and good. I'm also not a fan of their per computer licensing fee. The program has some kind of built-in verification program that keeps checking itself. Overall, it is a great and reliable program. |

Ensign is a very fast, powerful traders weapon and the DYO's (Design Your Own)allow you to do some pretty cool stuff. You can stretch your workspace over a much bigger area than your screen real estate and fill it with all kinds of charts and it doesn't slow down.
Some vendors only allow you to fill your visible display but Ensign can toggle the complete workspace up and down so even a 2-screen setup can toggle between many more displays.
All the charts update instantly together even under a huge loading and you can see the cross-hair on every chart at the same time giving you both vertical and horizontal positioning that's precise on charts with very different axes. Move the cross-hairs fast and there's an instant response on all charts - it feels like a Ferrari. Want to know when when a 1 min chart signaled on a Volume chart? The precise point is easy to locate.
I have Ensign running on 3 machines but what really impresses me is what happens when I have a problem. Access to the Support Room is built in and usually only takes a few minutes to get help (USA time), and if it's a sticky problem call them and remote support takes over the PC and fixes the problem.
I'd been trying different sw, mainly to keep me creative and I missed the buggy patch Ensign apparently went through. Coming back to Ensign has made me more appreciative of how well Ensign performs but when I hit a problem with TWS not updating my charts the service was immediate and thorough including Howard taking over my PC for remote support.
The software is great and the service is Gold Standard. That's very reassuring to trade with. |

I thought I would pass this on to any of you who might be shopping for some trading technology. I posted my experience with this software not too long ago, and the reason I am doing it again is because the improvements are extremely noticeable. When the financial markets began crashing the volume price data went up several magnitudes, and Ensign is so well designed that you can receive tick by tick price during the heaviest of exchange volume, if you need that level of price resolution, and this price data input is at the core of this software product which is very important. The developers have made some very noticeable optimization and performance enhancements to it during the last several weeks. The software is extremely fast in the use of its features and functions. The bugs that have been mentioned in previous postings on this site have apparently all been fixed because I have none. My application of Ensign software sits right beside my order entry system and it is totally reliable and fast. The software is working flawlessly for me, and that is important during deciding which positions to take and managing the trades that are on. If your needs are beyond a few indicators and you require decision support information in your trading that is not in COTS (commercial off the shelf) software then you should try this software. Just follow the organization’s maintenance recommendations to keep your Ensign application fully optimized and you will have a valuable asset. |
