This program used to be called Automatic Pattern Search. In the last three years since my first review it has improved considerably and documentation has gotten a lot better. Multithreading is still not available and the only way to decrease search time is via the use of multiple instances. As I have already noted in my first review this program is not for everyone but IMO only for those with good knowledge of statistics and who can analyze patterns for robustness and significance. Better use of this program involves feeding its output to a genetic programming engine for the purpose of configuring the best system(s). The price for what this program does is reasonable given that they offer a license without installation restrictions and a lifetime key. The patterns found by this program can produce systems with a Sharpe ratio greater than 2 or even higher and with high statistical significance. If you have no experience with statistical analysis for evaluating trading system performance this program may not be for you. I am looking forward to the portfolio backtesting feature they are beta testing. |

JackR, I show you post and I contacted tradingpatterns. I am surprised of you. They told me that you knew all along that the company may close down and you discussed that when you ordered the software. They have warned all customers for more than a year about that with repeated emails, they made specific offers for upgrades, support etc. They have been in business for almost 10 years and they provided free support 24/7/365. More importantly, you asked and you received the email address of Michael Harris for support in case the company closes down. So, I and they, of course, wonder why are you making such posts when you specifically have nothing to worry about support?
They asked me to ask you what are the specific reasons you are accusing a company that was 10 years in business and was trying to survive in a very harsh environment with diminished sales of trying to avoid customer service especially when you have personally secured such service directly from the owner at no additional cost?
They are waiting for a convincing answer from you I guess. I am also disappointed about you JackR because this company with its software has helped me to learn so much about trading. Their instant support and suggestions were even worth more than the price of the software. |

Based on IntraDayBill's comment I looked at the "new" company's site. Software looks identical to that offered by the "old" company except for a tweak to the search algorithm. It appears that the old company and the new company are controlled by the same owner. I guess they got tired of providing support to the people that bought Automatic Pattern Search, so they shutdown the "Trading Patterns" company. Because they went out of business it also lets them avoid:
1)Providing password info to move to a new machine or new version of Windows, and
2)Having to come up with lower-cost upgrade pricing for all the customers they had.
I wonder how often this will happen?
I guess the new company can contact current users with a "deal" if they have something new or changed to sell. |

JackR, you are correct that tradingpatterns.com shut down and no longer sells or supports APS but the software was bought by another company (www.priceactionlab.com) and has been enchanced with the p-Indicator and some other features. My previous evaluation still holds

Excellent tool. But remember it is only a tool and like any other tool it has to be used the proper way. |
