It's been a year since I worked w/OQ so perhaps things have changed for the better but my experience was a real waste of time and money.
OQ was good at answering questions pre-sale but went a whole Summer w/o answering my questions post-sale. They actually said that they were on vacation so they didn't have the time. No lie. They said it in a post here on ET.
The data collection utility caused the program to crash.
Very little documentation. This is okay if you have time to experiment w/code but not so good if you're trying to deploy a strategy quickly.
Out of frustration I gave up on OQ and switched to NinjaTrader. NT has it's problems too. But, NT for the most part is upfront about its shortcomings; support and documentation are not a problem w/NT.
Could OQ be as good or better than NT? Yes, probably. But, they don't really seem to care since they seem to be more focused on their institutional product w/QuantHouse.

This is a great platform with well thought out features. Please realize that this is meant to DEVELOP you own strategies with C# programming langugae. It is not one of those "money making robots" that promises to make money for you (as one of the reviewers above seems to think..). Instead it is a PLATFORM on which you can build, test and run strategies that you develop. It's easy to use (IF you understand C# basics) and has all the features you need. It works quite well with IB without too much tinkering.
It has a few bugs that unfortunately the support team (which is only 2 people I think) have failed to address.
1. Memory usage: You rarely can backtest more than 2-3 weeks worth of historical data on a 2 GB RAM machine. Even following their advice and limiting some items stored in memory, many people still get "Out of Memory" errors. I have even sent support a part of my code, and they just never even replied to me once they got it. This is kind of ridiculous for a $700 program.
2. Backtesting of STOPS and TRAILING stops has some serious issues. Stops will execute at fairly random times and at an incorrect price. Example, you set a STOP at 900. The stop executes at 900, gets filled at 900 but at that time the instrument price is 870. No one on their support team knows why this happens and no one has responded with any solutions after several months of people having this issue.
The bottom line is this is a great piece of software that has some serious issues. It is absolutely not worth the $700 because you are essentially on your own after you buy it if you need REAL support (admittedly, the support team does a good job of explaining how to do things in OQ, but they DO NOT seem to fix any of the serious bugs). |

sounds good, looks good, but the last mile needs to be traversed...
so, how do I apply these quant methods?, using what platform?
also, why sell these quant methods, and why should I expect that there are enough variables (that I can customize so that no two users have the same thing) that I will understand,
so as to get a consistently positive outcome.
isn't this just selling what no longer works?, not sure, can't get answers... |
