I have both Multicharts and Ninja but can't use them for basic charts. Ninja v7 is now not due till Q2 09 and both seem to be focusing on obscure requests before the basics are settled. I have had to subscribe to DTN's Prophetx.
Overall I am amazed at the efficiency of Prophetx, with five charts and dozens of line studies the program only uses about 5(five)-10Mb of system memory! Compare that with some of the other bloated premium charting programs - a Multicharts forum I saw yesterday had members complaining that their 2Gb of memory was overflowing and crying out for 64 bit multi core compatibility to improve performance....
Also, for some reason it is one of the few charting programs that handles the x-axis properly for those using 24 hour symbols (like the ES, YM) with thin overnight trading.
Most charting programs (inc. Ninja/MC) just skip periods with no trading meaning an uneven compressed time line and therefore erroneous charts - especially for line studies and maybe patterns. Others do handle these zero volume bars but can't handle holiday days/minutes and session breaks - especially the globex close at 3.25 on Fridays with no 3.30-4.30 session. So they insert blank bars or dashes where there is no trading session, putting their (x)minute charts out over the weekend or over holidays and half days. (eg. QT and Maran trader)
Professional programs like CQG go to some lengths to take care of this, see page 4 here:
http://www.cqg.com/Docs/CQGCharting.pdf
I doubt if many MC/Ninja chart traders even know their charts are wrong, but it can't help their trading.
Prophetx pricing and features could be improved though for commodities (Active Trader Edition doesn't even include delayed commodities futures data) and a feed for third party software is not included. There is also a startup fee which can be avoided for IQFeed but not Prophetx. |

DTN Prophet X is dope. It's absolutely the best charting software I've used.
I'm a chartist & trade support / resistance. While this is a simple approach, I also use DTN to view everything from the crack spread to reading DJ newswires.
Company pays for DTN so I can't comment too directly on the 'value' but I can say it's absolutely reliable & I experience ZERO downtime.
I trust DTN & recommend their product.
The only thing they could add would be.... DOM - depth of market.
Currently I can only see the bid size/ask size for the closest prices (highest bid, lowest offer).
9 / 10 -- great software for an active futures trader. |

This is an excellent product for commodity traders. Modern interface. Superb charting. Integration of news. Easy to create seasonal and historical analytics. Options analytics. DTN ProphetX is a flexible, well designed and well priced application. I've been using it over a year having switched from e-signal. |

"ProphetX is by far the best competition to eSignal, and it is a much better value as well." - JMowery1987 | July 06, 2006 9:57 PM |

It's pretty simple really, we have eSignal, a company that really doesn't care for it's customers, offers lackluster support, and overcharges for everything, and even simple features that should be free, they love to tag it for a price.
ProphetX on the otherhand, is an amazing value. The support team is excellent. I personally had a few features I requested added in, in the next release! That is 2 weeks it took to add some features, where'as eSignal, there have been a few bugs that I have been trying to get them to work on for a year now!!!
Plus, when you look at the cost of ProphetX vs. eSignal, and you look at the quality, ProphetX wins without question.
It's almost stupid to support eSignal anymore. Reliable feed and reliable service is what the DTN crew offers, it makes me wish I never even had to deal with eSignal, but I will be sticking with ProphetX from now on. It gets a 10 out of 10 by me. |

I have tried alot of charting software over the past 6 years, this product on a scale of 1-10 gets a 9. I do wish the had more intraday tick data. |
