As my current broker doesnt seem to provide me with short selling options, Im left with the decision of either switching or staying. Im just wondering though where do you traders feel like you make more money on short or long selling?

I'm kind of confused by your question. If you feel YOU need to short sell, which your broker doesn't provide, then it doesn't matter if everyone else is making money going long or short. If you aren't sure yet if YOU make more money going long or short, then perhaps the broker isn't the biggest problem at the moment. I know this sounds like not a very helpful answer, but its almost like asking what kind of pie someone else prefers because you're hungry and don't know which one to buy. If I say I like strawberry... how does that help your stomach?

I think there really is no difference between going long or short. Because of inflation, the market tends to have an upward bias, but the best traders I'm sure can make money going long or short. When going short, it seems these moves happen faster, like the saying that the market takes the escalator up but the elevator down, but once again, if an experienced trader sees weakness, he shorts, and if he sees strength, he goes long.

So I think it is important to be able to short and go long, but just like some traders are better at with trend entries versus reversals, I imagine some have stats that tell them their shorts or longs are more profitable. But I don't see how any of this would help you.

Depends on the market, if its mainly going down then long but be against the hurd.

my broker does allow it to its own citizens but im an american currently residing in korea. korea bullcrap laws doesnt allow foreigners to short sell because we're basically borrowing the money. I guess it makes some sense and on some levels it doesnt. Korea is messed up like this. Very hypocritical and nonsensical

Can you open an IB account and short Korean stocks in your IB account?
