Series 56 retake?

Discussion in 'Prop Firms' started by MoneyMatthew, Nov 19, 2014.

  1. I passed the series 56 a few years ago and traded with WTS. I have not traded with WTS in a few years and I got a U4 or whatever separation papers they give you when you stop trading.

With T3 taking over everything from WTS I am just curious as to where I stand on the Series 56? Would I have to retake it if I wanted to trade again or would I just call up T3 and say "hey I traded a few years ago with WTS and I already passed my 56 back then.. I am ready to trade!" ????

  2. I was told when I left prop to trade retail that the 56 is valid for two years from the date of the U5 (the "separation papers" you got from WTS). So the date that is critical is the day of the U5 paperwork, since you have two years from that day to rejoin a firm by submitting a new U4, or your license expires.

  3. Thanks for the reply ScalperJoe. It has been over 2 years now so it looks like I will have to retake the exam. I passed it before so I can do it again...but what a hassle :-(

I am going to email T3 just to see what they say. Anyone want to take a bet on the turn-around time on getting a response to my email from T3? lol...I will be happy to get a response at all lol....

  4. Maybe they will reinstate your 56 as long as you take some continuing ed, rather than having to take the exam again. This was one of the exceptions for those who had an expired Series 7 during the time everyone had to be licensed with the 56.

I'm not sure if they can make exceptions for an expired 56, but it can't hurt to ask. It would suck to have to sit through that test again!

  5. I second that.
