Problem with IE tabs not opening after loading TS 2000i

I just got a new PC with Win 7 64 bit Home Premium. After I loaded TS 2000i new tabs & windows in IE 11 will not load; the new tab or window will appear but the new link doesn't load, the page comes up blank and the browser address stays on the page I started with. Anyone have a solution? I know that TS2ki writes some instructions for IE4, so it must have corrupted the registry. I had this problem a few years ago when Win 7 first came out and I worked around it by using the 64 bit version of IE8/9, instead of the 32 bit version but that option was no longer available starting with IE10.

btw, I know that the s/w is about 14 yrs old but I use it for eod analysis (no backtesting or trading) and there are some data organizing I can easily do with it. I use MC for trading but would like to continue using TS.

I'm curious what MC can't do better than such an old version of TS? Can you tell me more about exactly what it is you are doing that can't be done in MC?

Uninstall IE and then reinstall IE. Always reboot when having problems or making changes.

With TS, using the dial data downloader, I can create folders of stocks with specific criteria which I draw off from another software package (High Growth Stock Investor) and then run scans using the TS workspace assistant. I have indicators I've written in EL that are not available in other scan packages. MC may have the scan capability, but I've used it for less than a year and haven't dug that deep into it; I also need to check on how to set up the data folders to run in MC. I can run TS2ki on a separate PC during the day and take periodic snapshots (like at 10:00 so I can capture the first half hour range) and easily flip thru several indices and stocks. I have dozens of stocks I monitor with fractals drawn & other indicators and I can easily move from workspace to workspace. I've tried this in MC and bumped up against the 5900 object limit. It's just much easier for me to stay with TS for now.

The tabs problem started when I got my first Win 7 PC which had IE8. Back then I had to do a full system restore to get the 32 bit browser to work. As I noted, the 64 bit wasn't affected. There was no way to uninstall IE8 and reinstall it. The problem persisted in the 32 bit when I upgraded to IE9. I've tried some registry changes I found on different forums but nothing has worked. I thought maybe other TS2ki users had the problem and might point me to the specific solution. If no one responds over the next few days I'll try a local shop. If that fails I'll have to switch to Firefox.

Here's some things you might not have already tried. Make sure the account you're logged into windows with has Administrator Access. It's not always clear when the operating system hooks are reset so it's best to reboot after making any changes and testing or observing if that had any affect. This can be tedious so I understand most people won't persist but if you want the results bad enough then imo it's worth it. Though I can't count the times I've spent way too much time on something and still failed, those occurrences usually lead to some positive idea or insight, though often not until much later, sometimes months later.

With all that in mind, please accept my apology in advance, if some of this is too basic, because indeed it's often the simple changes, that if untried, were all that are necessary from the get go.

If open IE, click on Tools, Internet Options, then switch to the General tab, you can then click on the Tabs settings. When The window with the Tabbed settings opens, there's an option to RESTORE DEFAULTS. You probably want to take a picture of the current settings first. My reasoning for this is so you can confirm Restore Defaults actually changed something. IOW, if all the settings on that page were already at the Default level then Restore Defaults wouldn't necessarily overwrite the old settings. Thus imo, it's worth the effort to change all those settings to something different first, reboot, and then (for the first time) try clicking Restore Defaults. Although this might not make sense to many people there are obscure ways software avoids wasting effort when it thinks it's unnecessary and this is exactly the type of thing that can make it difficult and tedious to figure out why something is not being reset, even after you told it to reset. In this case you want to be sure it responds and actually overwrites all the settings.

If nothing else other than tenacity has been voiced thus far than again please accept my apology for being so wordy, and not being able to help. Given enough time, imo you can beat this and you have to start somewhere. Another thing you can try is press down and hold the Control and Shift keys while clicking on a link embedded in a web page as this should force it to open that link in a new tab and switch to that tab. Though you've already said that doesn't work in the other modes, some obscure mode such as this might be enough to force a different route through the software which again eventually, one of these ways has to reveal some information, give a different result. If you follow this path and pay attention to the smallest differences, I assure you this is something someone somewhere can resolve.

I tried your suggestion but the problem persists. There must be some instructions in the TS setup script that allows TS to make a connection to IE and open a new tab. TS2ki was created when IE was at version 4 so the TS instructions must conflict with later IE versions. I find it strange that no one using 2ki over that last five or six years didn't encounter this problem. I may try to find other solutions on the web or check if a local shop can fix it at a reasonable cost. If I get it fixed I'll post the solution.

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

This is a common problem experienced by many people and most of them have never heard of TS.

    Go to

    http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us

Select Internet Explorer, near the middle of the page, where it says Browse Categories.
Next page, select Browse by version, IE 11.
Use the search box on the next page (with the option to leave the search set to the current scope as opposed to all categories).

You want to search for ......... links open to blank tab

There are lots of good ideas there and I'm certain you will find the solution if you take the time to read through it. As an example here is another idea that might solve this for you.

Internet Explorer, Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab, Scroll down to Security, very near the bottom and add a checkmark to Enable Enhanced Protected Mode. That is just one of many things other users report as having solved this very same problem. I can't say this enough, be sure you reboot before you test if it worked.

But before you close that page of the settings, notice that it has an option to RESET everything (on that page) to defaults. That would be the next thing to try, but only if the solution just described doesn't work. The more of these resets you can find and the sooner you try them the sooner you will figure it out.

  8. Off topic but I used TS2000i when it was in vogue, was always impressed with what it could do compared to what a lot of other stuff could/would not do, even today maybe...
