so I understand how the option work etc. but because there are different option type, I'm guessing their is few/1 type of option that is more popular compare to rest of option type? is this true or I'm just daydreaming, because that every option type has same amount popularity, and same amount of rist/reward etc.

also I'm assuming most ppl close the option rather than exercise it.?

US equity and ETF options (calls and puts) are the easiest to figure out and probably the most popular. Such as:

    • US equity: AAPL, GOOGL, AMZN , FB, MSFT, etc.
    • ETF: QQQ, SPY, DIA, GLD, etc.

My guess is that 99% of option traders have no intention of trading the underlying. So the trade is closed before expiry.

  3. I am not sure what you mean by option type. Do you mean calls vs puts, do you mean LEAPS, vs regular vs weekly vs minis, or do you mean as OptionGuru assumed US Equity vs ETF?

Popularity varies from option to option. Calls and Puts have different (mirror image) P/L profiles but calls always have a similar P/L profile to other calls regardless of the underlying, same with puts to other puts. Buying options limits downside, selling options limits upside, and there are complex option chains that allow all sorts of P/L profiles to capture various moves, and even non-moves. If you don't really understand this and how the Greeks affect options then I would suggest holding off on trading options until you fully understand these things.

I was thinking he is referring to options on any product Worldwide. So I narrowed it down to the simplest and probably the most popular option market, US Equity and US ETF's
