I have seem the future of the Republican party. May you all vaya con Dios.

"The Whig Party was a political party active in the middle of the 19th century in the United States. Three Presidents were current members of the Party.[1] Along with the rival Democratic Party, it was central to the Second Party System from the early 1830s to the mid-1850s.[2] It originally formed in opposition to the policies of President Andrew Jackson (in office 1829–37) and his Democratic Party. In particular, the Whigs supported the supremacy of Congress over the Presidency and favored a program of modernization, banking and economic protectionism to stimulate manufacturing. It appealed to entrepreneurs and planters, but had little appeal to farmers or unskilled workers. It included many active Protestants, and voiced a moralistic opposition to the Jacksonian Indian removal policies. The "Whig" name was chosen to echo the American Whigs of 1776, who fought for independence. "Whig" meant opposing tyranny.[3] Historian Frank Towers has specified a deep ideological divide:

Democrats stood for the 'sovereignty of the people' as expressed in popular demonstrations, constitutional conventions, and majority rule as a general principle of governing, whereas Whigs advocated the rule of law, written and unchanging constitutions, and protections for minority interests against majority tyranny.[4]..."

    "...
If Democrats gain five Senate seats this fall, Charles Schumer will replace McConnell as majority leader. Seven Republican-held seats are up for election in states President Barack Obama carried twice. McConnell will encourage vulnerable members to take whatever stance toward Trump they believe will help them win.

Democrats need to gain 30 House seats to allow Nancy Pelosi to reclaim the Speaker's gavel from Ryan. That's a much more difficult hurdle than they face in the Senate. Because of how congressional boundaries are drawn, most incumbents hold relatively safe seats. Trump's success during the primary in many of those safe districts represents a source of pressure on Ryan to fall in line behind the nominee.

Are you a believer, Tsing? Honest question, you appear mainly evidence-oriented to me.

  6. I have seen the future too. The exact same criminals that have run this country into the ground will still be present and in power come 2017.

That's an interesting question, Ricter. I am extremely evidence oriented, but will admit my hypocrisy when it comes to God. I do believe, as there has been a few things in my life my equations and data have not been able to explain. I know many atheists will leap at the opportunity to tell me that this does not mean God exists, but I don't care. If my definition of the root cause of these things is God, that is my business, not theirs.

I do not, however, believe in the Bible as God's own personal word. It's a book written by men to push a desired behavior, nothing more. It's existence has made the world a better place in my opinion. I also don't believe in God as represented in the Bible, but as a much different and more dimensional being. Not sure if this answered your question, but there it is.

I don't get involved in the religion threads because I cannot prove God exists, and they can't prove He doesn't, so there's no point in arguing what is an opinion on both sides of the argument. They can't tell me I can't believe in God and I have no right to tell them they should.

I'll also add that I've taught my child my belief system, but encouraged him that truth is more important than blind faith (but"honest truth" not "convenient truth" as the samurai would say) and he should always pursue truth for the betterment of his soul.

    Yes, well said indeed.
If only theists would generally admit the same that the existence of God is an hypocrisy to evidenced oriented rationality, just a personal opinion and honest truth is more important than blind faith, I'd venture the world would be a far better place.
