Need an alternative to CQG (Amp/Multicharts.NET)

I've been using the AMP/CQG/Multicharts.NET trio for a few weeks and this week has been a disaster and I need to consider an alternative data provider I think.

    1. Between Monday and Wednesday I had no reliable data due to a CQG server update that messed up Multicharts. That mostly was resolved by Wednesday but there are still odd issues and MC support told me via live chat that data issues still exist.

    2. Then on Thursday I had an active order on which I clicked 'close' and saw it partially fill. I cancelled and was left seeing a partial long position (I could see it in the open position tab of MC.NET). In fact my position was flat, something I only discovered after an MC.Net restart. This led to me being out of a lucrative trade that I thought I was in.

    3. Finally I have discovered an ongoing issue with MC.NET and CQG tick data. I've noticed that tick charts diverge - two instances of MC on the same computer and both displaying a CQG tick chart will start the same but build bars at different rates and end up looking like different charts. Only when data is reloaded will they look the same again. I've discussed the problem here: https://www.multicharts.com/discussion/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=48444 and also via MC support who've said via email "

This issue that you reported with CQG data was confirmed. Unfortunately cannot give you any ETA regarding when it will be fixed, most likely it will be fixed in one of the future versions."

So... Would I be better off with TTNET? Or is Rithmic an option? I don't mind paying a little for a feed where I don't suffer the data issue but where should I look?

I realise the problem is likely to be the CQG/Multicharts.NET combo rather than solely a CQG issue but I want something reliable

Try asking Customer Service at AMP for a solution and let us know what they say.

Thanks JP, I've asked them for suggestions but given that my issue really is between MultiCharts and CQG I am not expecting them to even want to get involved.

One would think if you signed up with a broker and were unable to trade due to acknowledged deficiencies in the platform and/or data that they offered and provided, finding a solution would be a high priority even if the issue was not their fault. But I don't know. I'm thinking of opening an account with AMP so I will be interested to see how they handle this.

I hear ya JP but I regard AMP as a 'no frills' broker - cheap prices for a reliable service and in fairness to them their service as a broker to me has been reliable (actually excellent).

Thanks James, I will check this out - any way you could persuade Multicharts.NET to offer your feed as an option in their 'Special Edition' version? Otherwise I have to pay for an MC license in addition to the cost of your feed.

NinjaTrader has been integrated and working with CQG/Continuum for many years and is relied upon by tens of thousands of traders every day. Our experience with CQG/Continuum has been stellar on every level.

You need to make a list of what functionality CQG has that makes it work for you, then find the appropriate platform that will have those functions.

CQG has a lot of profesional grade functionality that is hard to replace.

The CQG data issue you experienced was not limited to MultiCharts. CQG forced an unannounced update to an old API, basically retired it. Any platform connected to this old api was affected. AMP's Version of MultiCharts was connected to this old api only for the historical data servers and AMPMC users never lost the ability to trade. Ninjatrader users were unable to log into their platforms for over an hour - until CQG was able to rollback the old api for Ninjatrader.
