  2. Do those do fft's? I used to love to look at a waveform and have the ability to push a button and get the spectrum. If I was working on noise reduction or filters it was so facilitating and intellectually satisfying as well.

    I want it for something far simpler, measuring latency in the nanosecond range.
     
  4. they don't timestamp in nanoseconds? Why are we dealing with all these ECN's and whatnot if we can't get nanosec timestamps, wow...

    If you are measuring in 10s of nanoseconds, and your resoltion is in 100s of nanoseconds (to say nothing of OS lag), what good do timestamps in nanoseconds do you? I also only care once packets are in my system, not what happens on the outside.

    You need an oscilloscope when the resolution of what you are trying to measure in the tens of nanos.
     
  6. Actually, I've seen a demo on a pulse position measurement instrument. You could dial in a picosecond...
