I'd like to add an external monitor to my laptop. My laptop uses a intel dedicated graphics card and from my understanding this maxes out at 1080. However, if one connects via display port its possible to get 1440 resolution, is this correct?

Also my laptop only has a hdmi port and a rgb (vga port?) would I be able to use a dsiplay to vga port adapter to hook up the monitor?

  2. Likely not. Would be surprised if otherwise.

For 1440 res, you need both monitor and video card/chip capable of 1440.

You need that your hardware will be capable of that output anyway and nothing more than that really. And when laptop have HDMI and VGA ports, it usually do not work at all at 1440p, just my little observation here for anything done.
