Do large banks and institutions use TA to profit?

This thread's been making me chuckle

Shit load of debating whether large banks / institutions use TA

So here's my thought (and has been since this thread's beginning)

    ================

Whether large banks / institutions use TA - seriously who gives a flyin flip

It should be of no concern to any of us

Fact is..., they make TA..., that is exploitable

Do I give a shit what they use to do this - not in the least

My main focus is making money - not what the one's I exploit use

Shit that makes me go - Hmmmm

You need to learn to 'read' a chart, evaluate ranges & apply risk management - then TA will work, you will not make any consistent return unless you do the legwork yourself. Buying just because RSI is oversold is not going to work, money management is key to ANY trading activity, even guessing.

  4. My friend, I make plenty enough without even reading a single chart or without even looking at it. Does not mean I never look at any charts at all but it means none of that TA crap forms the basis of my trade justification, entries nor exits.

Recognizing levels and acting on them based on how the markets act is fucking TRADING. If you want to lump that into the same realm as moon cycles, MA crosses, and gann fanns, then that's your prerogative but it doesn't mean appealing to ignorance or false dilemma fallacies make the "TA is useless!!!" points anymore valid.

We have over 4+ threads going on ET right now predominantly involved with the validity of TA on a forum that's been around for close to 20 years. Surely this has been beaten to death already.

Trade the way YOU want to trade.

  6. "recognizing levels"? What does that even mean? What levels? In case you have not noticed, it is 2015 and round figures mean nothing whatsoever to the 60-80% of volume that is traded by algorithms in the market. Nor do those algorithms care about support or resistance levels. Again how do you even define that a certain level is support or resistance? When precious prices bounced off that level 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 times or what? Trading algorithms that pretty much drive the entire US equity and futures trading volume look at micro market dynamics and not what your mom and pop on high street believes is relevant. You are probably 10-15 years behind our times with your statements.

The only part that retail also has access to and which seems like an endeavor to embark on is recognizing and acting on momentum, and even that is a very flimsy concept. But support resistance or "levels"? Please folks...move on...nothing to be seen here...

He uses ta, just like Surfer, he wants folks to think he's got something special going on. Heard it all before. If Surf's system is so good, then why it scores win rate which can be easily attained using conventional methods together with risk/trade management?

  9. Can you name a single fund of significant size managed by discretionary chart-reading that has a consistently profitable record? Yes, I know every TA enthusiast on ET is running a super double secret fund that always makes money, but is there even a single large fund with a verifiable record of success?

You draw a trend line on a chart it becomes ta, all funds use TA even if partially, the q was do they use it to profit, nobody is arguing that they only implement TA, but they do use it as well as other research modules.
