    Democrats launch a toddler-ocracy
Moral outrage is fine, but Democrats are being childish.

Legislation by tantrum. That's what the Democratic sit-in in the chamber of the U.S. House of Representatives amounts to. You don't get what you want, as devoutly as you believe it to be the right thing entitles you bust to up all the toys in the sand box.

Democracy, if it means anything at all, implies a process. There is an established procedure that is often lengthy, cumbersome, and frustrating. You don't get what you want when you want it and often times you don't get it at all. And when that happens, you just work harder to win elections at all levels of government.

You can believe, as I do, that reasonable restrictions on access to firearms by individuals untrustworthy enough to be denied a seat on an airplaneare consistent with the Supreme Court's interpretation of the Second Amendment and I also believe that the House Republicans' miserly approach to fighting Zika — one of the targets of the Democrats ire — is irresponsible, but that could have been worked out in a compromise with the Senate's more generous approach. But neither issue warranted a serious and unprecedented breach of the normal operations of the chamber.

It is regrettable that in the contemporary Congress too much time is devoted to measures that masquerade as serious bills but are nothing more than political messages designed to embarrass the opposing party. Both sides do it: witness the fatuous, repetitive votes on the House floor to repeal Obamacare.

At least they didn't shut down all government.

  3. Really? Comparing the need for responsible gun control to the (fatuous) push to repeal Obamacare?

You are correct. Obama shut down the government. :)

  6. Where were these people when they had control of the WH, House and Senate? They could have passed any bill they wanted to. Why no outrage then, or were they all in la-la land hoping the mere presence of the messiah would bring peace and harmony to us all? Guess that's why he got the Nobel prize just for showing up. How's that been working out? At home? Abroad? Disaster on all fronts.

Ditch and Tom B like this.
  7. No, I didn't miss the point of the piece. I just pointed out the backhanded false equivalency.
