CME Ethanol market - A fake market ?

Discussion in 'Commodity Futures' started by Rachmaninov, Aug 20, 2014.

  1. Hello all,

I am currently trying to trade on CME Ethanol market (code AC/ACF) but I my spread order dont get picked.
It is really a strange market with a bid/ask spread sometimes higher than 4 %. Even with this enormous spread the volume traded is quite big (1000 futures/day) and is really big compared to tue open interest (around 10%).
Low liquidity markets dont have such volume and such high turnover. In addition to this my broker (IB) say there is not "Last" even when I see that a lot of volume has been traded.

    Any idea ?

    Thanks

P.S. : Anyone open to a discussion on the fundamentals side on the Ethanol market ?

  2. I havent traded ethanol but Im looking at the same contract and all I can say is that im sure this is not the "primary" listing.

The real volume is on CU( NYMEX ) vs AC: http://www.cmegroup.com/trading/energy/

But it is weird. CU has even larger spreads than AC. The volume you see must be prenegociated blocks or clearport...I agree it is a strange market.

  4. What is clearport ?
Ar first, I thought it was a EFS market. But even with EFS you have to trade half the volume in the market.
CME doesn't even put the quality specifications of AC & CU. Price are quite similar but I dont konw what is the difference.

Clearport is the CME Platform for OTC products I think.
