Baron - What's a Journal Nowadays

Discussion in 'Feedback' started by justrading, Feb 8, 2016.

  1. It used to be that a journal was personal space. Different standards applied. In a common thread you could happily rip the OP a new arsehole, but in a journal it was frowned upon. I remember once getting a PM from @Magna pointing out I had posted a bit too much in the Surf Report when something had pissed me off and I was in full flow. I accepted it.

Atticus once gave me an 'ahem' when I did the same in some journal, I forget which one.

Has this all changed? What's happening in the Surf Report is akin to pissing on someone's grave, given he isn't around to respond and all the shit is really quite unnecessary. Yes, there was much to criticise about him. I stopped posting in his journal after a full explanation why I wouldn't anymore.

Back in the day if someone got the boot, the journal would be locked to further posts. Given the rubbish we see there now, there is much to say for that practice.

I don't think you need to worry where your next meal is coming from.

Would it be too much to ask for some minimal standards to be maintained?

The standards have changed. I noticed marketsurfer talked about his view on TA on his surf retort journal and was immediately banned.

Sure, he was asked to refrain from trashing TA but wrongly assumed that meant in others threads not his own --- which take a look was under attack by numerous multi alias trolls at the time who remain active on the site. Not to mention trashing surf nearly daily -- personal vendetta supported by site management? Weird, but who knows?! Read the report and decide for yourself.

Yes, major changes for the worst have taken place--- even journals are being censored when trading beliefs clash. Sad!

  3. To be fair I think it much much more than just the TA issue. Taking ET matters to Twitter and crowing about it here was in appallingly poor taste, and should never have happened.

That said, I support and advocate for the idea of journals being personal space. If anyone thinks something the owner says is rubbish, make the point, in a civil manner, once, then let it be. Journals are not the place for flame wars. I know it's hard with someone as deliberately provocative as Surf, but if we, the ET community, agree that journals should be different and treated with a measure of respect that doesn't have to apply in ordinary threads, then more people will find the courage to journal. That increase in sharing trading views and trades will only serve to enrich this site, and we will all be the better for it. There is always something to learn, even from a newbie who poses a question we didn't think to ask ourselves, and that is what I have always wished to see here.

    oh yeah

  5. And you know this how? Did marketsurfer share this assumption with you while looking into his shaving mirror? Or were you just channeling surfer from afar?

I appreciate your humor but it's important to note the truth as I observed it. Surf was posting TA doesn't work posts to the TA section of the forum. The timeline shows a deletion of 4 of these posts perfectly coincided with his departure.

I'm done with this, literally on all threads. I welcome surfs return if that's in the best interest of ET. I will maintain my hands off approach with everyone in the future. I encourage everyone to do the same, and hope the moderators understand we've lost good people over the years because the humor if it can be called that in all cases, wasn't worth the lost productivity.

I'm narrowing my focus to a few threads. When someone new comes along demonstrating hate for the things I love ...please support this hands off policy.

  8. Truth be told, I don't mind intelligent back and forth. Otherwise, we're just a confederacy of yes-men. I don't mind if someone takes aim at something I subscribe to, as long as it is reasoned and he is also willing to withstand the test of scrutiny of his own argument. However, and this is why surf is surf, he just machineguns with bluster, self-aggrandizement, and mindless repetition in lieu of dialogue. His arguments are superficial, parroted and poorly understood (by him). His sole purpose is geared to attention seeking at any cost. And this is what I believe detracts from the site.

  9. He's an experienced market pro, and his views were supported by his quant team's work. What more could you ask?

  10. Even for a seasoned shill such as yourself, this is pushing the limits...
