backtesting data and software

  1. Hello
I'm new to this and want to obtain a large dataset on which I can indicate a timeframe and a % difference.
eg "all stocks which had at least a +15% rise in 2 months time"
and then compare the similarities between them and the differences between stocks which decreased. This offers we a great insight in the market dynamics and I can use that later on to actually trade. But first I want to be able to find the early technical indications of the eg "15% on 2 months" rise.

Does any one know a website which offers the dataset for free and/or predifined formulas to analyse this. I can always use Excel if the latter is not available.

  2. Look for stock scanner in Google. Finviz.com comes to mind. If you are a bit more advanced, you can use software like Amibroker.
