Anyone using 27" or 32" monitors

Discussion in 'Hardware' started by listedguru, Mar 4, 2015.

  1. I was wondering if anyone here is using either a 27" or 32" WQHD (1440P) monitor for trading? I've been using some 24" Dells for years (1920 x 1200) but lately I've been thinking about going bigger.

From reading online it sounds like a 32" WQHD might be the sweet spot for that resolution as text and such on the 27" will of course be smaller. Here are some of the monitors I'm keeping an eye on. Anyone using any of these:

Really like this but not super excited about the speakers:

I use a bunch of 27inch monitors (1920 1080). It does the job.

I guess you need to consider how much display space you need, the number of monitors your computer can handle and the cost of each monitor and the display resolution.

(1920 1080) is fine for 27inch monitors. As you have mentioned probably need (2560 1440) for 32inch monitors.

32inch monitors will give you about 50% more screen space than 27inch monitors.

32inch monitors will cost about 2 times more than 27inch monitors.

I guess there are a lot of decent second hand 27inch monitors available but not many 32 inch monitors.

  3. ...if you want Excellent audio on a computer...from my experience...you'll need a dedicated sound card, and better quality computer speakers. (not the basic built-in integrated one's).

i'm thinking a Creative SoundBlaster soundcard http://www.amazon.com/Creative-Blaster-Performance-Headphone-Desktop/dp/B009XDWUCQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425534197&sr=1-2&keywords=creative soundblaster

and Klipsch ProMedia speakers http://www.amazon.com/Klipsch-ProMedia-Certified-Computer-Speaker/dp/B000062VUO/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1425533975&sr=1-1&keywords=klipsch speakers

You should also look into considering getting one of those cooler...newer...Curved monitors.

  4. I have one 27", 2560x1440. I made the fonts larger for easier viewing, so I don't really get any more displayed than I did at 1920x1200. Porn should look better though.

This is what I use, it's good screen real estate for trading and web brosing and/or working. Setup.png

  6. A few good choices for desktop speakers... with or without woofer. Suggest Logitech, Creative, and Bose for $50-$100 sets and decent sound. (I've had the predecessor of the Creative T20 for a few years. They are quite decent considering their modestly lacking in low end. I didn't opt for the 2.1 set, as I didn't have a good place to put the woofer except on the floor. And with 3 dogs who would likely eventually get around to either chewing or peeing on them, well you know....)

  7. If I heard correctly, resolution of 2560 or 4K is important. Please note that 27 inch or 32 inch is not very important.

Pay attention to the resolution instead of the physical size of monitor. Also some VGA card does NOT support 4K monitor while most VGA cards support 2560.

I use two wide monitors because I like to watch movies, sports, ocassional game and navigate or read twitter as I trade, actual trading I could do with one 1920x1080.

  9. Do you use only ONE VGA card with two 1920 monitors? If so, two pieces of 1920 monitors has roughly ONE 2560 monitor in momory, because 2*1920^2 = 7372800 is roughly close to 2560^2 = 6553600.
But two separate monitors need more work (in VGA momory) than one physical monitor, if my understanding is correct.
