I'm visiting there. At least in Hanoi they have fiber optic Internet. I performed some speed tests:
speed is between 10-12 Mbps between Hanoi and a server somewhere in China; 0.5-4 Mpbs between Hanoi and Washington DC. ok for my style of trading, but might not be ok if you scalp intraday

I am Vietnamese-American, I am live in America right now, I am thinking about moving to Vietnam when I finish graduate school. I have the idea that trading US equities while living in Vietnam, since the cost of living is low $800-$1,000/mo, which quite comfortable living. I figure that I only need to pull $50/day on average for 20 trading days per month on a $50k account will yield to $1,000. Not only that, the market is open about 9:30pm in Vietnam, I can have a day job if I want to work.
    What do you think?

About the internet connection, I don't think it is a problem, it is fast, the only thing concerning is that something the optic get disconnected some where out the ocean. It has happen about 3-4 last year, and usually disconnect for about 4-5 days for them to fix the cable. You still get connect during that time, but expect dial up speed.

I would think that ECN infrastructure would trump all other concerns.
