I am a retired engineer with close connection to the high tech industries. In my entire career, I had never encountered a single illegal immigrant in IT. All the Indians, Chinese, and Russians I met were either American citizens born in the US or legal foreign workers on H1B visas. What I would like to see is that more native Americans will enter the IT and high tech sectors. They are the first immigrants. All of us came after them.

As for the Brits, consider these two facts. 1) They had invaded and conquered 80% of the world before the end of the 19th century. Remember the empire on which the sun never sets? And now they have descended into a clan of immigrant phobic islanders (to be fair, only 52% of them). 2) The USA is a nation of insurgents of immigrant descent who revolted against their British overlords.

As a tech worker in the industry for over 20 years I can tell you that without a doubt the H1B visa is heavily abused and at this point pretty much a scam setup directly benefitting the major outsourcing companies (Infosys, Tata) and the corporations using them (they don't actually realize it's costing them more + producing inferior results though).

  6. Bingo...and you should see the margins they garnish (Cognizant, InfoSys, Tata, etc)....
    it's incredible.
And when the hiring corps have a software disaster like Mariott did when the doors locked to the hotels at midnight, THEY WON'T ADMIT THE CAUSE WAS THE CHEAP FOREIGN LABOR.
No way..I tried to get them to confess, but they would not.....but they were willing to "cover it up".
My contention was some dumb-ass Indian programmer had "hard-coded" a date into the program that manages the door locks.

  7. Omigosh....and here is another example...likely supported by CHEAP FOREIGN IT WORKERS:
    www.weather.com
I can never get my local weather for the current date.
It always shows the forecast 5 or so days ago......totally worthless.
Also telling: there is no feedback form....no one can post a complaint to their technical support.
    They are TOTALLY F'd up.
