Another windows10 question: is it possible to use a PC or laptop with W10 without a disc IN the PC/LAPTOP? I want to work from an external SSD. So if I remove the SSD and they steal my laptop I keep my data. For every use I plug in my SSD and start the laptop, that's what I want. If it works for a laptop it probably will also work for a PC. I have two identical PC's in two different countries. I would like to take my SSD with me on the plane when I travel and just plug it in the local PC and work. As I take the SSD with me all information is always available and should not be synchronised. I also have a better feeling if they would steal my PC while I am in another country as they have no data and I just have to replace the stolen PC. I don't want to put anything in the cloud. Tried already a few things, but nothing works.
Yes it works as long as your Uefi boot manager recognizes the external ssd drive. As long as it is recognized in the bios it works.
It has to do with a contradictory quest for privacy. If you have a mobile phone and installed apps on it or if you have Google mail or the like you already gave your privacy away. In Windows 10 you can choose how much of your privacy you want to preserve. Both are a choice. But saying yes to the first but no to the other on the grounds of privacy concerns makes very little to no sense. But I am glad you made your choice. As long as you are happy with it all is good. Just please stick to the facts in that Windows 10 does very much give you the choice how much you want to reveal to Microsoft and how much you don't.
FWIW I have never used Win 10. Unlike some, I prefer to do research before investing instead of jumping in the puddle and then asking how deep it is. Experts can advise you at the techie-type sales places. Get three or four opinions and ask why and why not. I avoided troubles on Win 6 and Win 8 by doing exactly this. The latest advice I have received is to stay on 7 for the time being. (I recently read that corporations may have forced microsoft to blink so a new SP patch might be released.) If you move to 10, then buy a brand new computer and start fresh (because of the most dangerous variant of the stuxnet virus.) Enough said about that. The latest threats are extremely dangerous IMO. I have personally chosen to avoid Microsoft products on Macs where ever possible. Considering the number of high profile attacks on governments and corporations it continues to astound me that we get all these people driving through the cyber warzone minefield with a golfcart and telling others "See I made it fine so it's OK". Mac has had problems also so install malwarebytes and learn the location of the force quit command. Mac has a built in pdf feature which was a pleasant surprise.
