In all seriousness, what volpunter said is pretty on the mark. Coding is going to be the least of your problems. To answer your questions, I would learn C#, it's easy, fast and powerful and comes with a great development environment. Being able to deduce that your backtest results are not random is going to come from what you are backtesting and your domain knowledge. There is no magic formula to separate the random from the non-random, being able to do this is pretty much the systematic traders edge.

  2. I've been learning some basic programming for awhile. Most languages have a lot of basic structure that is similar. So it's best just to get going with one of the more popular languages and go from there. Most programmers know a multitude of languages.

Khan Academy will teach you some basic Javascript, HTML, CSS, etc. CodeAcademy will teach you other languages like Python and Ruby on Rails.

I do it just for fun. I honestly don't have a clue how to use it to trade lol

I wanna vote for Python. I have 0 knowledge of coding and just started to learn how to build my own stock model. My friend recommend Python to me. I think it is easier to learn and becomes more and more popular these days. Once you master the skill, you can use some free platforms to build your model and run back test to view the results. I'm using StockEquation. you can find it in iOS app store.
