Since there is a lot of HP hate on here, I will have to clarify that HP does not build it's own laptops. Nor does Dell or Toshiba. Almost all laptops are made by a third party manufacturer who sells to the big brands. Asus is the only brand name that is made directly from within.
I'm a little late to this thread, but... I'm looking for a totally silent computer [I guess that only means tablet? ] and the largest screen possible [i also need to run TWS [interactive brokers] for some part-time trading] what are my options? edit: just glanced at the Surface Pro, and looks interesting. Nope only Surface 3 is fanless. Waiting to see if Surface Pro 4 is fanless(fingers crossed). That IPAD Pro looks like a total joke.But hey, it is fanless.
Basically you already replied to yourself at least here - "can anyone advise about these HP machines? I like the fact its cheap and very portable" so if that's the case then go for it, out of curiousity how much it costs now anyway ? Something good ?
