    Hi all

I just wanted to see who here trades the JGB 10 year on the DOM. Are you based in Asia/Australasia? What are you thoughts on liquidity during Japanese trading hours? I'm based in Melbourne and looking to trade a thick enough product that doesn't slip and slide all over the place like crude and doesn't stick in the mud like Aussie fixed income!

    Pleased to hear anyone's thoughts!!

    :)

  2. I traded JGB futures for many many years. It was, IMO, one of the greatest contracts in the world to trade. It averaged 5 times the volatility of the Nikkei, was near perfection from a TA standpoint, and you could get up to 400:1 margin at IB. And then along came that #&@%'n
    Kuroda. End of an era.

    Hi learner2007,

Have you monitored it recently? I'm new to it however over the last weeks action it seems fairly stable. I guess though you don't want to be holding the bag when another random tranche of bond purchases are made.
However for the scalpers, those are the days you turn off your computer and wait for the mkt to reset it self, can take a day or two i guess. So yeah not ideal.

Did you have the 20 year up as well in DOM to monitor spreading when you were trading the 10?

  4. After the gem was ruined, I did follow it for a while, then stopped. Looked at it yesterday for a week or so back after reading your post. If day trading it is your plan, I wish you luck.
FYI IB raised the JGB margin rate to over SPAN x2 and stopped offering 50% intraday margin.

The last time I looked the 20 year wasn't being traded at all, and OSE recently announced measures to make it more attractive. None of the brokers here (Japan) or IB offer it.

I'm monitoring the JGB on the OSE. However there is an e-mini 10 year on the SGX which I'm waiting for my broker to acquire (S5 Trader) shouldn't be long now they say as it's in the risk assessment stage.

What's your market of choice? Do you stay up for the Eurex?

  6. After JGB days, I switched to Nikkei225 Mini. Years ago I traded the large Nikkei, but the mini is so much more active, and offers a zillion trading opportunities each day.

Nikkei225 mini is pretty crazy at order book level. All over the place!
