This is the current best look at the temps. Proven true by multiple studies. On top of this is the CO2 level. Rising CO2 around 1850 caused temps to rise.

What is the point of this chart? The Earths temp has fluctuated since it has existed. All that this chart proves is that the Earths temp is fluctuating like it always has.

I love how the graph mixes their methods of collecting temperatures. Tree rings, corals, ice cores, and historical records. Really? I also love how that graph shows a near constant temperature through 1910 or so. I can unequivocally state that the source of that data has done a lot of 'tricks' to come up with that 'historical' temperature dataset. Where's the Medieval Warm Period? Where's the year without a summer (1816)? How about that drop in temperature ~1950-1970? Did CO2 levels decrease during that time? No? Then WTF? Why weren't thermometer temperature readings used exclusively since, no later than 1750? Daniel Fahrenheit died in 1736 (inventor of the modern thermometer). Whoever built that graph used a whole lot of smoothing to come up with the finished product - I wouldn't be surprised if they used something like 50 year smoothing. That's another trick used by the AGW cultists - smoothing datasets over long periods of time.

So that they could also discontinue smoothing techniques. The thermometer data has not been smoothed.
