Hey Baron, I have two ideas, that you can take or leave just a couple of suggestions. First off is there an easy way to make it so that text that is copied and pasted from other sites defaults to a standard size based on this site? It is kind of annoying when copying and pasting all of a sudden you see the font blown up in some places, and not in others, just a suggestion, as it can be really annoying on some articles. Also is there a way you can make it so that all videos with an embed link will embed? We used to be able to embed way more videos now 90% of the time when i find a video i can no longer embed it, basically the only videos i can embed now are youtube videos, dont know if there is a specific reason for it, but I was just curious if its an easy fix to allow us to embed everything that had an embed link.
Yeah, in the editor bar above where you type your post, click on the wrench icon to the far right. That puts you in plain text mode. That way any font formatting will be stripped away when you paste it in. Give me an example of a non-youtube site that you want to embed videos from.
Thx for the response, works good now. In terms of videos, its mostly sporadic, so its vids from all over the place, but before it seemed like we could post almost any video aslong as it had an embed button on it. Also, this has been asked before, how bout a way to embed tweets? Im assuming since we cant do it yet there is a method to your "madness," but i have never understood why we couldnt embed tweets, especially when there is alot of charts accompanied by a quick comment on twitter, I guess Twitter is a competitor, in which case i get it. Again, not trying to tell you how to run your site, so all this is up to you, its just suggestions for things i have noticed that would seem to make the site better.
Yeah, the tweet thing has been something I've asked for before. Would be great if we could embed them using the function twitter provides for it.
I could be wrong about this but maybe the reason Baron doesnt want to allow it is because its competition to elitetrader, like the comment section on all articles these days.
It's not really that at all. By allowing generic embed tags, it creates a huge security problem. It's one thing if you want to embed something on your own site web site or blog that you control. But for us to allow anonymous users to use the "embed" tag or the "script" tag (in the case of twitter) means that we would be opening up ourselves to a huge security risk because those tags essentially let users embed all kinds of things, even malicious code. In fact, it's because of those tags that someone came on here a year or two ago and embedded some code that took over our user's browsers and forced them to a child porn site in Russia. That created a serious problem for me and so it's not one I'm rushing to embrace again.
Good question. It's encouraging to know that somebody likes your post, as that builds "likemindedness" and promotes camaraderie. But from all that I've researched, Dislike buttons do just the opposite: They cause more flame wars and arguments on virtually every site that's tried to implement them because dislike buttons let users know who their real enemies are. In light of that, I'm not sure that's the best route to take.
