  1. My oldest SSDs, Intel 80GB, X25-Ms... have been in use daily for 5 years in trading rig. Intel SSD Toolbox still shows "100%" of life left.

    FWIW.....

  2. cool, i have a similar ssd rig from 2010 running great. (pugetsystems) currently running along side it is a dell refurbished xeon unit that i outfitted with a a 240GB SSD done quite cheaply overall.

Gratz! I think I read in previous thread that ssd is just as reliable as platters. Do you guys think that this true?

Aside from intel, what are the most reliable brands?

  4. apparently , if you dont throw them in the oven, or hit them too hard with a sledgehammer, they last a while

  5. Some believe SSDs to be even more reliable than spinners.

Other brands said to be reliable are Samsung and Crucial... maybe a couple of more.

  6. I personally can't wait for the day where M.2 and its successors are the norm....

Instead of huge cases built primarily to house drives, you have smaller cases housing a motherboard with 8 slots for RAM and 4-8 PCIe slots for SSDs (plus a few PCIe slots for GPUs, if needed)...

And if software is exclusively sold/downloadable online, and CDs, DVDs, Blu-Ray's are eliminated, then....

No more drives, drive bays, cables, SATA connectors on the board, etc...

All that remains is Intel building processors and chipsets capable of supporting more PCIe bandwidth and lanes...

My Dell Latitude (2008) 40GB SSD died after ~22 months. Daily excel use.
