I have no intention of getting involved in the Felix and Oscar thing you have going with futurecurrents. If you want to believe that man-made CO2 is, or isn't, causing global warming, that's okay by me. Couldn't care less.

troll handbook page 14... when pinned down in a lie and asked for proof-- first pretend you already have presented proof and if that does not work pretend you have no interest and quit.

  4. I don't know of this person, but I'm wondering, Has he made even the slightest mention of Mass Extinction (ME)?

ATM, I stand firm on the belief that if we can somehow get a handle on the ME problem, Global Warming, Environmental change, and a slew of other debates will fall by the wayside.

It seems ironic that I have to keep hijacking my own thread, in attempts to address the original topic and what should be of greatest concern.

Perhaps republicans and democrats alike are quietly waiting for cryogenics to advance to the point where all or most of the current species can be successfully frozen away, and once again revived to life after the planet has been depopulated of most of its humans- a modern day "noah's ark" if you will.

If that's the case, our atmosphere may be the Mankind's only real chance of a long term success...

For that reason alone, I suppose we should try our best to take care of it ;)

That is the type of subject Tyson gets off on... his speaks of past mass extinctions and warns of mass extinction caused by man and particularly man made global warming. As I stated it is hard to watch him speak so eloquently and then leave out the science and the other half of the debate. For instance he admits things were much warmer for dinosaurs but acts like he knows that things will be worse for man if it gets warmer. (which no one really knows... and if anything with 7 billion people the greening of the planet might be a good thing. And plenty of scientists will tell him that)

also... and I have not googled him on this but when he speaks... he seems to be a bit weak on on the major mass extinction risks to humans which the govt could protect us against... the risk to our energy grid to EMPS and Solar flares. (I would be happy to be corrected on this.)

  6. It may appear so, but I suspect quite a few got it more than they would let on.

But, it won't matter to most, because Ignorance is one of their two main genetic traits. ;)

All aside, thanks for the share :)

by the way... the dominion over the earth thing was a ridiculous misunderstanding of the teaching DB.
Nobody who cares about others is in favor of trashing the planet for future generations.
Conservatives are in favor of conserving the good for the future
Christians are taught to be good care takers.

That is is not to say anyone is perfect and that some Christians are not the type who would make a fortune in carbon and paying off Nancy Pelosi and then pay democrats to protect his business against a pipeline by pretending to be concerned about the environment or say install air conditioners for a living while railing against man made co2.

  10. The Passenger Pigeon was the most abundant bird in the world during the time of the Civil War.

When rations were lean, soldiers from both armies could often count on a meal if they were a good shot, as one out of every four birds in North America was a passenger pigeon.

The bird was considered an easy target, and before the advent "clay pigeons", these individuals were being sold and used as the real thing.

If a flock were to fly over, which happened often in those days, one merely had to aim his weapon to the sky and fire their weapon once, often hitting two or more birds with the shot.

A single flock of 3.5 BILLION birds flying over might darken the sky and take more than 14 hours to pass, as was recorded in Ontario in 1866.

Indigenous people killed and ate the birds too, but as they were more far sighted than white people, they knew to only steal the young from the nests and left the adults to reproduce.

The white man however, being the capitalistic savage that he is, slaughtered the birds on a massive scale throughout the 19th century, and sold its meat to the market.

Meanwhile shopping plaza's and project development impeded its nesting grounds and habitat.

The last passenger pigeon, "Martha", named after George Washington's old lady, died in the Cincinnati Zoo in 1914.

If you want to see a real passenger pigeon- I think they may have her stuffed away in a box somewhere at the Smithsonian.
