Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:41:02 PM)
Today we welcome Dan Mirkin of http://www.trade-ideas.com to our chat room.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:41:13 PM)
Dan, along with co-founder Philip Smolen, worked closely with traders at hedge funds like SAC and Circle T Partners, where they observed and analyzed the trader decision making process.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:41:32 PM)
They saw a real need for an inexpensive, yet sophisticated tool to assist traders by automating what the trader does manually throughout the trading day-look for trading opportunities. By using its flexible alerts and filters Trade Ideas can be configured to suit most trading styles.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:42:02 PM)
We'll start with a short presentation on how Trade Ideas reduces market noise to point out movements that are unusual. Then we'll open the chat up to your questions.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:42:23 PM)
Dan...? Welcome. It's all yours. ::smiles::

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:42:35 PM)
Hi All

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:42:47 PM)
I really appreciate you coming to this chat

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:42:55 PM)
What is Trade Ideas? Trade Ideas is a web based Real-Time Alerts program that automates what traders do manually throughout the trading day. It looks for certain trading patterns while checking for statistically unusual behavior behind the scenes.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:43:21 PM)
Trade Ideas is NOT a green light buy red light sell type of alerts systems

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:43:37 PM)
It is a system that can be applied by different users in a number of different ways.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:43:53 PM)
Some alerts like Channel Breaks and Running Up/Down Alerts are good for spotting momentum as it starts, while the confirmed alerts are better for spotting tops and bottoms.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:44:14 PM)
While some traders trade in the direction of an alert others spot an opportune time to fade an alert.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:44:41 PM)
The big advantage of using our alerts is that they show you that in any market something is happening and there is always opportunity to make money. Today if you are not using some sort of similar tool you are at a disadvantage. This technology is like Level 2 in the early and mid nineties, those that used it had a competitive advantage over others that did not.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:45:25 PM)
There is no software that needs to be downloaded and it does not take a lot of system resources. Take a look at the FAQ section for detail answers to some common questions.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:45:56 PM)
http://www.trade-ideas.com/FAQ.html

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:46:17 PM)
Aside from showing you potential trade opportunities Trade Ideas Alerts can be used to read the market tape better. We have a completely unique method for this that is not available in any other product!

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:46:45 PM)
We suggest you pull up another explorer window and run the alerts along side as we talk. This way it will make more sense visually. Before you start begin we strongly suggest that you make a small adjustment to your browser settings. Under Tools, Internet Options, Advanced Tab, under Browsing there is checkbox for “Reuse windows for launching shortcusts” Make sure that options is UN CHECKED This will greatly improve your alerts user experience.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:47:18 PM)
Take an alerts window and configure it to look for just positive up side alerts. Then create a mirror duplicate right next to it with negative down side alerts.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:47:54 PM)
This is a link taking you directly to an alert window

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:48:20 PM)
Dan?

wadebobb (Feb 25, 2003 4:48:26 PM)
test

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:48:26 PM)
Yes

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:48:34 PM)
Do you have to be registered at this point?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:48:41 PM)
No not for this demo

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:48:50 PM)
anyone can have access to this

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 4:49:06 PM)
Ok, good. Let's give folks a few moments to open the screens and such.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:49:13 PM)
But registered users will see more data

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:49:21 PM)
Yes of course

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:50:14 PM)
If you hit Crl+N it will create another copy of that window

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:50:42 PM)
Ideally what you want is to have them side by side or one on top of the other.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:51:05 PM)
Make sure that the counters in the right hand corner are visible. Now as alerts come across you will see the numeric count of how many alerts have come across in each window.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:51:49 PM)
Comparing one number to the other gives you a very unique perspective of an advance decline breadth but in terms of statistically significant action.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:52:38 PM)
I don't excpect anyone to configure the windows, just to get a general sense of what we are saying

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:53:22 PM)
Here is a link to give you an idea of our alerts software working in a direct access environment. http://www.trade-ideas.com/Samples/REDI_Trade-Ideas.JPG

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:54:02 PM)
In this case it is with Redi Plus, but it is applicable to any trading platform

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:54:49 PM)
You can save any number or alerts settings just by clicking save in an alert window. The configuration will be saved to your favorites and you will be able to have easy access to it any time you need.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:55:43 PM)
We are really tring to have the environment where this web based application works similarly to other programs people are use to working with.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:56:08 PM)
Things like Save, cut and paste, etc

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:56:40 PM)
http://www.trade-ideas.com/SingleSymbol.php?symbol=MO

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:57:10 PM)
Here is an example where you can look at alerts on a per simble basis in a static format

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:57:21 PM)
woops

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:57:26 PM)
That is symbol

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:58:04 PM)
You can also look for patterns based on alerts. http://www.trade-ideas.com/SingleAlertType.html

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:58:58 PM)
We give the end user the ability to make symbol lists and apply alerts to only those specific stocks.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 4:59:37 PM)
Andre, I think that is a good overall overview. If anyone has questions I would be glad to answer them.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:02 PM)
Ok, thanks, Dan.

wheat (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:11 PM)

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:19 PM)
Go ahead, Wheat.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:21 PM)
yes

wheat (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:26 PM)
options

wheat (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:33 PM)
are they supported

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:00:54 PM)
We filter on optionalble stocks.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:01:05 PM)
Currently we do not have alerts for options

wheat (Feb 25, 2003 5:01:10 PM)
okay

source (Feb 25, 2003 5:01:14 PM)
?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:01:39 PM)
yes

source (Feb 25, 2003 5:01:50 PM)
Does Trade Ideas compare to e-signal and real tick hot trends

dsmoore (Feb 25, 2003 5:02:03 PM)
is there a manual that can be printed?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:02:29 PM)
I believe we are in a similar space with Hot Trends

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:02:53 PM)
Yes a manual can be printed. It is the help section on the site.

source (Feb 25, 2003 5:03:07 PM)
You are certainly much more affordable which I like.

JayS (Feb 25, 2003 5:03:11 PM)
How about futures and international futures?

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:03:30 PM)
http://www.trade-ideas.com/Help.html

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:03:44 PM)
We are completely Platform independent so you don't need Real-Tick or anything else to run it.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:03:52 PM)
thank you

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:04:04 PM)
We are testing some futures alerts right now

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:04:08 PM)
dan, i have been using tradeideas for several weeks and i think it is great, some back testing on the running up and down alerts indicates fading these works uncannily well

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:04:33 PM)
Thanks marketsurfer

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:04:34 PM)
my suggestion would be to link to better charts then yahoo

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:04:55 PM)
That is a good example of how really using the tool to its full capacity

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:05:27 PM)
i am speaking in the extreme short term when i say fading the alerts

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:05:28 PM)
We are in the process of linking with Real-Tick, Esignal, and Redi.

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:05:34 PM)
fantastic !

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:05:40 PM)
Those are works in progress

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:05:55 PM)
Our brokerage partners have been very helpful with that

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:05:57 PM)
great, the charts is the only weak point in the program

Dzambo (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:08 PM)
?

wadebobb (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:15 PM)
How long until liked with Real Tick?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:16 PM)
The link that is there right now is basically just a demo

wadebobb (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:22 PM)
linked

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:24 PM)
Yes Dzambo

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:31 PM)
That would allow better integration when a symbol is clicked. Rather than see a Yahoo chart, with such vendors one could automatically populate the montage of a OMS

Dzambo (Feb 25, 2003 5:06:40 PM)
are you planning to allow settings of num alerts

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:07:11 PM)
Dzambo what do you mean?

Dzambo (Feb 25, 2003 5:07:21 PM)
qcom at 34.5

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:08:06 PM)
We stay away from that because there are many competitors who have those features integrated, including data vendos like eSignal

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:08:39 PM)
We think our competitive edge is the high end analytics which you just could not do on your own without serious programming.

Baron (Feb 25, 2003 5:08:53 PM)
How often is the alert page refreshed?

MICHAEL.B (Feb 25, 2003 5:09:15 PM)
how affordable is it

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:09:36 PM)
This is configurable. By default it is 5 seconds, but you can change that to streaming mode

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:09:50 PM)
The demo on the home page goes much slower

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:10:00 PM)
every 35 seconds

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:10:09 PM)
We are only $45.00 per month per user

dsmoore (Feb 25, 2003 5:10:15 PM)
Is it possible to include this as a window in RealTick without having to have another window open?

WinSum (Feb 25, 2003 5:10:16 PM)
if streaming mode, what is the bandwidth required ?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:10:56 PM)
We have not tried but you can try if you have Real-Tick.

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:11:05 PM)
WinSum - Using the service, there is no difference in bandwidth used than what Yahoo or Google might use when surfing the net.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:11:06 PM)
Would be good experiment.

source (Feb 25, 2003 5:11:15 PM)
Does the manual give a good overview on how to use each of the settings or would you recommend other study material to get a good feel on how to use each of the settings in Trade Ideas.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:11:27 PM)
Maybe you cold explain how the data feed works, Dan?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:11:40 PM)
WinSum that is a good question. That answer is right in the FAQ,

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:11:53 PM)
The Data Feed.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:12:00 PM)
We're used to paying for data, and getting programs that are compatible. But Trade Ideas doesn't need our data feed, correct?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:12:30 PM)
Yes it is completely data independant

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:12:35 PM)
No other data needed

unana (Feb 25, 2003 5:12:40 PM)
What time frames are available - tick to daily?

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:13:11 PM)
So essentially, we're using your data feed. So where does it come from?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:13:34 PM)
The analysis behind the scenes is all proprietary data, and we look at tick and time when we do our analysis, as well as volatility etc

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:14:14 PM)
One of the things this does is help in the human error. How do you know when 5 minutes is valid versus 5 minutes

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:14:18 PM)
We do that for you

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:14:43 PM)
Andre, internally we get our raw data from Esignal

denislarose (Feb 25, 2003 5:14:49 PM)
any free trial for that system

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:15:07 PM)
one of the things i like best about tradeideas is that it is totally customizable. you may be the only one seeing what you are seeing and can act before the crowd

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:15:08 PM)
Yes the site is completely ecommerce enabled through Pay Pal

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:15:33 PM)
There is a 7 day free trial. If you cancel before that there is no charge.

denislarose (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:07 PM)
you mean we register and have to cancelled before 7 working days

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:17 PM)
marketsurfer, that is one of the big things we were shooting for

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:31 PM)
you have done a great job, dan

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:37 PM)
When you split your alert windows into Bull and Bear indicators you also get a breadth of market read from the number of posts each window gives.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:37 PM)
a real edge for someone that is not easily dplicated

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:40 PM)
yes

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:16:42 PM)
ys that's a good "feature/dge

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:17:26 PM)
I hello there dan. sorry i am late. love the software and have been using it in concert with some of my other tools. :)

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:17:35 PM)
We firmly believe, because we work with a Trading Lab in San Diego that uses our alerts, that you can make money even in the toughest environment

redzuk (Feb 25, 2003 5:17:55 PM)
How could i customize, I dont see an explanation of what triggers the alert?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:17:58 PM)
It is all about exploiting that edge as long as you can then fining another one.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:18:15 PM)
Thanks canyonman00

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:18:20 PM)
the fact that a super succesful hedge fund like circle T ( and mine of course) uses the software is seriously telling

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:18:39 PM)
redzuk, click on help and you will see what triggers each alert

unana (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:03 PM)
does the software cover e-minis and other indices

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:04 PM)
There are question marks spread out throughout the config page

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:15 PM)
:)

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:20 PM)
one of my intrests when i train my clients in using software is ease of use. i love your product from that standpoint.

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:28 PM)
One of the techniques that must be mastered is the rate of information delivered through an alert window. Luckily that is the first question Trade Ideas responds to in the FAQ. Does anyone have any stories of their methods for getting the right amount of data throughput?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:34 PM)
I'm blushing :)

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:39 PM)
what are some of the coming expansions?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:19:47 PM)
We cover indicies

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:09 PM)
We are looking to cover more traditional Technical alerts such as:

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:14 PM)
daf, it all depends on your style

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:28 PM)
dan, how about pattern alerts ?

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:32 PM)
TA patterns

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:40 PM)
RSI overbought oversold, Stochastics, MACD Crosses

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:43 PM)
y patterns

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:20:53 PM)
head and shoulder type

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:01 PM)
continuations

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:09 PM)
or candle patterns--- that should be easy to implement

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:19 PM)
bul hammers/bears

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:23 PM)
yes

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:25 PM)
hammers

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:27 PM)
We are looking into pattern alerts, channel breaks and gap reversals are our furst foray into that space

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:46 PM)
it will be freaking huge should you add this

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:53 PM)
monster

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:21:55 PM)
are you going to provide the data output/format from your product to be used in orther products?

Zardoz (Feb 25, 2003 5:22:14 PM)
My brain is going to explode.

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:22:28 PM)
Indeed mktsurfer - I usually contain the information throughput by using the Minimum Current Volume filter - allowing me for example to only look at stocks that are trading 40% above their average volume for the time day

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:22:37 PM)
Canyon, we are working with several OMS vendors, and a direct access provider in that capacity.

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:22:42 PM)
::hands Zardoz some duck tape:: Wrap it tight, it'll hold.

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:22:48 PM)
yes, that works nice

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:23:00 PM)
excellent, i too would be interested in that venue.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:23:19 PM)
No problem just chat with me later :)

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:23:26 PM)
:)

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:23:50 PM)
I'd like to remind folks... Trade Ideas does have a board on Elite Trader that Dan follows. You can read his responses there and ask follow up questions. http://www.elitetrader.com/vb/showthread.php?s=&threadid=10043

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:24:16 PM)
thanks andre! :D

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:24:17 PM)
Th nice thing here is that we wanted an easy way to give people access this information and that is why we chose the web.

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:24:44 PM)
There are few barriers to entry for anyone to try the product and see if they like it or not.

denislarose (Feb 25, 2003 5:25:11 PM)
what barriers

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:25:36 PM)
having a computer

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:25:38 PM)
:)

daferiat1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:25:42 PM)
It is very easy to deploy. If I create a great alert window, I just copy and paste the link into an email message and send it to other traders. Then both of us are looking at the same take on the universe and can strategize together - a great feature

Andre (Feb 25, 2003 5:25:52 PM)
::grins::

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:25:55 PM)
Two step process go to Advanced Features on the home page, click Create New Account and set up a Pay Pal account, that's it

denislarose (Feb 25, 2003 5:26:10 PM)
already trading actively with RT and using ESP Product from Pristine what will be the main difference with your product

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:26:15 PM)
And of course computer with Internet :)

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:26:38 PM)
The statistical analysis behind the scenes

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:27:03 PM)
We have very unique Quant models that generate the more complicated alerts

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:27:15 PM)
Dan.. so no alerts yet on things like key reversals/outside/inside range days?

iceman1 (Feb 25, 2003 5:27:40 PM)
is that doable.. or no interest

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:27:53 PM)
We give you gap reversals, but not the specific ones you describe.

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:27:53 PM)
is therer a manual that will be available explaining some of the products features in a little more detail?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:28:00 PM)
But things are in the works

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:28:11 PM)
I drive development like slaves :)

marketsurfer (Feb 25, 2003 5:28:21 PM)
dan, are you guys exhibiting at the NYC expo ?

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:28:49 PM)
canyon, we are coming out with a CD that gives people more visual support than just reading help

source (Feb 25, 2003 5:29:24 PM)
That is a great idea about the visual CD

Dan Mirkin (Feb 25, 2003 5:29:32 PM)
We did try to make help as comprehensive as possible though

canyonman00 (Feb 25, 2003 5:29:44 PM)
