I have been with Ameritrade 13 years. I have tried other broker's and none of them can compare. If your an active trader you can negotiate lower commissions with Ameritrade. |

They finally finally made the studies' windows vertically adjustable. Plus there has been scores of upgrades and improvements to the platform in the last half year and more. The simulator is now realtime when it used to be seconds behind. The old TOS tech claimed nothing could be done. Glad they booted that nonsense and really fixed it. The current TOS is everything you can wish for an all encompassing platform. Now there is thinkscript automated trading and Prodigio has been booted/good riddance. Remember when TOS in their last year before being acquired by TDA, just worked on Prodigio and left the TOS platform to rot? That's all changed with TDA pouring resources into improving TOS now. You can chart and trade stocks, futures, options, forex, pairs, options on some futures, all kinds of option spreads and studies. New great studies have been added including Volume Profile, market profile/monkey bars, TTM squeeze, and a host of others. Tom Snowsnoff's "TastyTrade" channel has been added so you can watch it alternatively to CNBC. "Thinkback" is improved so you can see how a spread p/l progresses historically in chart view. Forex is by spread or alternatively by commission and all encompassed by TDA , so less worry about a shifty unregulated Forex-only broker. Highly recommended! |

It would be good to see some specifics from people that are criticizing TOS/TDAmreritrade.
They are my main brokerage now and I have extensive experience with TOS and IB. I trade only futures and stocks/ETF's so I can't comment on options but IMO, the only area that IB beats TOS in is futures commissions and margin rates. The commissions can be negotiated down to an extent, with TOS and for some types of stock trades, they can be better than IB.
TOS is always up, has great executions and contains everything one needs in one platform to trade, including charting, alerts, tick data, scanning, education, and no added futures exchange fees. Additionally, I'm much more comfortable with TD Ameritrades financial position given that I perceive IB as kind of a mysterious entity ... witness the recent non-compliance with the NASDAQ listing rules.
I will take TOS over IB at this point and look forward to the ongoing development of the TOS platform (IB's TWS needs to be replaced with something user friendly.) |

At first when TD Ameritrade took over thinkorswim it appeared that they were not going to to transform it into a retail piece of junk. Now they are doing it. I signed up for TOS not TDAT. Sad to see this happen. I am now using Interactive Brokers. |

So, it's not fair for me to try to rate the company on much, I signed up just for the mobile trading app. However, everything is delayed 20 minutes. That defeats the whole purpose of a mobile app, which is meant for being able to check something quickly. |
