I traded financial and some catt/e/hog spreads through this firm. I received very good service and executions from them(my account exec was Donna Heidkamp, who interestingly enough later became Pres). while I haven't traded spreads in a while(I traded through them in 2009 2010, I wouldn't have any problem going back to them. they promptly sent my funds to me when I needed them. |

I'm taking back pretty much everything I said about RJO in August 2009. Solid or not solid? In my opinion, if your experience is not very good, as long as you can get your money back it's pretty much irrelevant whether RJO is a "solid FCM" or not. My experience has been similar to that of futuresbuyer3. RJO has not been a very good experience for me.
On the positive side, the phone support I received while opening my account was polite.
However, on the negative side, the phone support I received after that period of time was not very polite, and the RJO employees I talked to didn't sound like experts, which were the keys for me when I took $50K risks, so I closed my account shortly after opening it.
If you try them out and have a fantastic experience with RJO, then I'll be happy for you. However, please remember, making a good first impression is not everything. After they catch and carefully reel you in, their attitude will likely CHANGE for you, too. They won't likely be very polite to you any more. The person you talk to won't make you feel confident in their expertise.
I'm posting this review just in case your experience is similar to mine, and you're looking around to make sure it wasn't just you. Good luck with RJO -- you will need it! |

I've been involved in the futures industry for a while from a technical standpoint, but never actually traded myself. After hanging out on EliteTrader and gathering some insight for a while I decided to open an account... and one of the people I work with recommended RJO, so I tried them out... it simply was not a very good experience, the phone support I received while opening the account was not very polite and the person I was talking to simply did not make me feel confident of their expertise, which is key for me when I'm about to lay down $3k for an account.
For what it's worth, I cancelled my account shortly thereafter and did not have a long experience with them... if you call them and have a FANTASTIC experience, then you should try them out. I just wanted to leave my experience in case others have the same one and are looking around to make sure it wasn't just them. Good luck. |

If you know what you want, it is a solid FCM. |

The idea is RJO, but you must do your own due diligence!! I hadn't even known RJO existed, till a friend recommended them to me and said RJO did an excellent job for him. When I called RJO (just now), the CS guy sounded good and made me feel good, too. While so far I've had no trading experience with them, I keep recalling how my friend kept praising RJO, day after day. He took large positions and traded currency futures, gasoline futures, and pretty much everything else. |
