Opened an account in mid 2007 and was quite pleased. After they were bought by OptionsXpress in mid 2008, obviously cost cutting was on the agenda.
Thereafter the datafeed got worse (much more filtered ticks). They thinned out their staff (sometimes you will see only one person in the chat for a whole day). And furthermore there were plenty of disconnects (no charts, no data) in the last months which makes trading impossible. I had an issue with rejected orders, too, which took them months to figure out the problem.
Take them as a backup broker because of free charting but hope you don't get disconnected when you need them. |

Great charting software, very flexible and better than Esignal. On my system the data is a little faster as well. Its a fantastic, totally integrated system.
They had some problems with upgrades before, but the system is so good I'll give them the benefit of the doubt for now. |

This is so sad. OEC has such a nice platform set-up and excellent order execution speed. However, they are their own worst enemy! As after almost every upgrade, the software doesn't work correctly. Also, the worst part is, it takes them days and sometimes weeks to fix the problems! |

I've been with them for years now and couldn't be happier - they have consistently exceeded my expectations. Sure, they had a platform problem recently - didn't effect my trading one bit because I plan for such contingencies - that's part of this business. It is annoying but don't throw the baby out with the bathwater. I think you have to have been with a number of brokers, as I have in the past, to know a good one when you see them - OEC is good IMHO. |

OEC is still a great firm. Extremely fast executions (smokes Ninja or TradeStation), free streaming data and charts, trade from the charts, super low commissions (if you are a real trader and not a pea shooter). You just cannot beat this firm. Every firm has hiccups once in a while. OEC is the real deal. |
