After 5 years with OEC I figure I should put a review up. They had some growing pains off and on and have the occasional outage like all brokers do but those days are a really really rare now. They have evolved into a reliable broker that I would recommend to any trader. |

OEC offers a great platform that is free, which also includes data, and the platform just gets better with every upgrade. Great firm with a great product, worth testing their demo out for sure! |

Quotes are loaded immediately. Execution occurs immediately granted the market is liquid (ES).
Services are very good for the price including back testing, free charting/platform, easy language indicator/strategy support, etc. There is limited data for back testing (at most I have seen 3 months worth of back data).
You can almost always reach someone in support during trading hours but you just have to speak to the right person to get your question answered.
Fees are unbeatable, when you take into account commissions per RT and the free software.
They have problems with data feed, it either completely cuts out for a short period of time or there is lag/spottiness. If you are an intermediate-long term trader it probably wont affect you. It seems they have some sort of issue every other week and with updates. They are constantly trying to improve their software which is fine and dandy but that of course introduces new bugs... |

Opened an account in mid 2007 and was quite pleased. After they were bought by OptionsXpress in mid 2008, obviously cost cutting was on the agenda.
Thereafter the datafeed got worse (much more filtered ticks). They thinned out their staff (sometimes you will see only one person in the chat for a whole day). And furthermore there were plenty of disconnects (no charts, no data) in the last months which makes trading impossible. I had an issue with rejected orders, too, which took them months to figure out the problem.
Take them as a backup broker because of free charting but hope you don't get disconnected when you need them. |
